War in Ukraine

Honest question to both of you:
Do you think the average Russian citizen or the average American citizen is more factually informed about the Ukrainian situation?

I would assume the average Russian just because the rubes here in the US have the bar set pretty damn low. Just read this thread as an example.

F-15 Eagle Driver On What It Is Like Flying Against Ukraine's Fighter Pilots

This does not make sense to me. Day 1 the Russians should of taken out C3 and airfields, which determines how effective Ukrainian pilots can be if they cannot get off the ground. Just astounded that the AA abilities of the Ukrainians would be so difficult with such a limited hodgepodge of obsolete SAM's.

The fact that Russia cannot or did not take out such shows what a poorly planned military mission. Has the Kremlin not watched the last 30 years of US executed warfare? I cannot help but think that during the Cold War if the Warsaw Pact invaded NATO, that NATO tanks would of eventually been sitting in Kremlin Square, sans nuclear exchange. It defies military conventional wisdom for the past 50 years. Maybe the talk about Russian kit being junk during all the ME wars of the past 60 years has merit and cannot be blamed on the operators.

Russia doesn't have the luxury of being able to drum up sympathy the way the West can. No one, as I'm gradually beginning to see, really would give a damn if Russia used it's own citizens as human shields.

If China were to do to Russia what Russia is doing to Ukraine they would have international sympathy.

Remember a few weeks ago when many of you were hopeful those sanctions would cripple Russia and Putler would be overthrown...good times...

Trump called on NATO members to commit to 2% of GDP spending and the whining commenced. Just admit you were duped.
But be aware that spending will now need to be 10% just to keep up with inflation.

Pretty sure women and children were quickly evacuated from the city. Also, Germany didn't give a sh1t whether they killed civilians which is in contrast to what Russia is doing.
True, the Russians are being very careful NOT to kill civilians, at least not the FEMALE ones. They don’t want to see a reduction in their supply of rape victims. Echos of East Prussia and Berlin in 1945
Two Russian soldiers raped Ukrainian mother after killing husband as four-year-old son cried
It is a time honored Russian/Soviet war strategy and we see it repeated now in our supposedly more civilized time
‘The Russian soldiers raped every German female from eight to 80’

Neither of us are likely getting a true picture of what is going on.
That goes without saying. That's true of everyone everywhere.
But you conveniently avoided answering the question.....Do you think the average Russian citizen or the average American citizen is more factually informed about the Ukrainian situation?

Of course there is always the spineless escape route of claiming they are exactly equal.......it is a copout commonly used in the PF.

I would wager most Americans couldnt find Ukraine on a map before the war started and maybe most still cant now. Russian citizens should be more knowledgeable because this has been an ongoing family feud of sorts in their own backyard. Americans dont give a crap about that.

Ukraine has done the same exact thing with their news sources and they have banned political parties.

Can’t imagine the confusion that has caused for them. They’re probably under the absurd belief that a foreign invader has come in, leveled cities, killed thousands, and created millions refugees.

Jimmy Carter said pretty much the exact same thing 🙄. Free people should never have to “settle” for a worse lifestyle merely because their leaders are incompetent idiots who got them in the mess to begin with
Free people will only remain happily free if they recognize that short term sacrifices are necessary for the long term good.
That is precisely what Carter understood that much of America was to ignorant to comprehend.

Trump dissed on Merkel and crew for lack of commitment, in which they themselves committed to many years earlier, and the libs went ballistic.
Basically it was if you dont care we dont care, which is factual reality. Carrot and stick. Yet the Russian collusion narrative had all been shoved down the publics throat.

Putin has done the impossible. In The blink of an eye, he has the entire Western world telling Germany to rearm and be prepared to face Russia in the East. WHAT kind of IDIOTIC Russian does that?

He knew that would happen, you can’t say you’re going Nazi hunting without knowing the enemy you’re about to make.

Americans will gladly make sacrifices when necessary, but they will surely balk at making sacrifices to cover for their leaders’ stupidity. A neighbor shouldn’t ask to borrow my car for the week after he totaled his driving drunk.

That is the American education system. We learn our geography thru war. Takes some time, but live long enough one has the world somewhat covered.

I was specifically referring to the statement you made about the news sources. What you accuse Russia of doing Ukraine has done the same with their news sources. I think it's safe to say Ukraine and Russia both have totalitarian regimes.

Thousands of civilians have also died in the Donbass region since 2014. Where's all the outrage for that?

This is a conflict that is largely the fault of U.S. and European meddling in the area.
