He didn't have much of an option back then, now did he? He is not a communist. If he were, Russia wouldn't be in a situation to handle these sanctions. Putin and Russia also learned the lessons and horrors of 70+ years of communism. Putin was a fan of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn. Not exactly a Marxists.

I can't speak much on China with their social credit system, but Xi isn't doing a new Great Leap Forward, either. In fact, he's going around the world building infrastructure for the Belt and Road Initiative. So while China is building railroads, port facilities and bridges, the US is going around bombing s^^t and running coups.

Yeah... The vast majority of people on this site believe the US can't manage to run a fair election, but a bunch of Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine are going to hold a referendum on joining Russia in the middle of a war with Russia and it will definitely be legit.

Bigger point is, who gives a f*** about Ukraine? There are plenty of other atrocities going on around the world, but those countries don't help launder money like the Ukraine.

I would be pretty neutral about it, actually. Not my concern other than the chip production. But that was a self-inflicted wound by our great wise leaders here in America to outsource that production.

Russia is able to "handle" the sanctions because they are used to shortages and hardships not because they have a thriving independent economy. You could not be a member of the KGB without certain political aspirations and yes he had plenty of other options outside of climbing up the latter of the government police. That is big of China to help other nations in the World as their own people languish in political prisons. Mao died in 1976 and Tiananmen Square occurred in 1989, the Cultural Revolution didn't end until 3 years after his death. Communism is also a political system that is still well alive in China and Russia whether you choose to face that reality or not. President Xi is a devout Maoist and invokes him quite often. Yeah the US just goes around bombing sh**. Name another nation on Earth who has sent more men to die protecting the rights and freedoms of other nations, spent more money giving aid to other nations. You can't and won't. You live in a fantasy World where facts don't match reality.

And as you can see, they've made their choice.

In the past, sanctions were a death sentence to a country. But as we began to implement sanctions more and more, countries began to think of ways to bypass the UD. Some lost their lives over it (Saddam trading oil in Euros and Gaddafi wanting to create an African Dinar), but the big boys like China and Russia (and to a lesser extent Iran and India) have made moves over the years to not trade in USD.
