He is a great coach...who said he was the greatest ever?

I agree, Barnes IS a great coach and any calls for his firing or even for his seat to be hot here are premature imo. Unless you have a sure fire upgrade lined up, you don't make that move. However...

Question: Do you think that Barnes has underperformed in March over the course of his career? It's certainly not a small sample size.

What do you think he does differently from regular season to the dance? I saw nothing different. Not to mention we broke that horrible record of never winning the SEC tournament in 83 years.

Eat a goober. Barnes coached his ass off. He didn’t miss open shots. Those kids fought hard.

They were defending the 3 point line aggressively which caused us to rush those shots but our real issue was giving up 76 points on 50% shooting…. Very poor for a team built on defense.

They were defending the 3 point line aggressively which caused us to rush those shots but our real issue was giving up 76 points on 50% shooting…. Very poor for a team built on defense.

Just my 2 cents, but it seemed to me in the latter half of the season, as this team started playing better on offense they kind of relaxed on defense a little bit. Imo they were a better defensive team in November, but a better offensive team in March.

We were up 60-54. ZZ had a wide open 3. You take it. Unfortunately, he missed it. They hit a shot. Next possession, he had another wide open 3. Missed again.

And...2-18...most of those were great looks because Meatchicken gambled and won...it is that simple. Without a bona fide consistent low post scoring threat, that was always going to be the way to beat us.

Blame Barnes for not being able to get more of those guys if you want, but they don't grow on trees. Huntley-Hatfield looks really promising the last few weeks, but he is not that player yet. We missed Olivier in this game. His loss finally bit us.

and Uros actually had one of his better games, most likely because they were guarding Vescovi like Fort Knox. That's what Barnes is talking about when he said we need more consistent big play so they can't just take out one of your guards without worrying about what is waiting on the inside.

My biggest criticism of Barnes, is inability to find that big that can score and play defense. Missing out on kid that went to Auburn and one went to Duke hurt.

I think Barnes is unlucky. I know that is hard to quantify, but in a sport where just getting hot and staying hot for 6 games wins you a title..it is what it is.

How many all time GREAT GREAT teams have we seen over the decades that did not win? Deep talented teams that had great inside and outside players, and a deep bench...but still lost...I have seen teams like that lose multiple times over the years anywhere from the second round to the final four...that is just the nature of the NCAA tournament.

This team had flaws, but I believe they worked extremely hard to mask and overcome those flaws.

With such a guard dominated team, you have to depend on the outside shot to go down when teams gamble and decide to shut down the drive...and when those shots don't go down en masse like they did not yesterday...you are going to lose unless the other team is just as cold.

This team we played had lost 4 of its last 7 games heading into the tourney…. They were also without their starting point guard that averaged double figures in the regular season….. sure…. We still could have one but from the point that you mentioned…. We hardly stopped them on any of their possessions.

2-18..the man is just unlucky, and that is all. All you can do as a head coach is recruit and put teams together, teach them the best you can, and then hope they gell enough over the season to become a good team.

Barnes is a great coach; he is a very unlucky coach in the NCAA Tournament.

I agree completely. It's not called March Madness for nothing all you have to do is look at all the upsets . One bad streak of bad shooting can get you bumped. That's what happened at the end of this game. So much like that Texas Tech game. This team was good enough to win it all,it just didn't happen. Happy to be a VOL fan . Now on to Baseball , they have enough to win it all but don't bet the house on it strange things happen in sports.

You think that maybe, just maybe that Michigan just had a good game shooting? And I disagree with your BS assessment..we got a lot of great looks and they just didn't go down.

This team we played had lost 4 of its last 7 games heading into the tourney…. They were also without their starting point guard that averaged double figures in the regular season….. sure…. We still could have one but from the point that you mentioned…. We hardly stopped them on any of their possessions.

Lightning in a bottle is just about what it's like. Only one team of more than 200 gets that lightning each year. It takes some luck which we just didn't have. We had the shots , they just didn't fall.
