I like Barnes a lot and anyone calling for his firing is being dumb but I think it’s okay to be frustrated, as long as you stay reasonable. And that Barnes has gotten out of the first weekend just once in his last ten trips is a reasonable concern. He’s taken us to the NCAA tourney 4 times. That’s a great accomplishment. But in 3 of those we were bounced in the first weekend by a double digit seed — #11 Loyola, #12 Oregon State, and now #11 Michigan. It seems with the collection of genuine talent we have had that it’s not unreasonable to think we could win at least one of those. Most people do not understand what you just said, people who have watched these things their whole life do not understand that fact. We could put really good 25 win teams in the Dance from here to Armageddon and never win it.
It is nothing more than a crapshoot where you hope your team is the most consistently hot for six games.
I absolutely love this team, they worked hard and made themselves better and more consistent on offense over the course of the season, and they absolutely worked their assets off on defense, which is nothing but pure willpower and want to.
I have been saying in here for two months that this team could win it all, or be bounced in the second round if they had one of those cold streaks at the wrong time against the wrong team. They did their best to get better, and that is all you can ask.
As much as I love Rick Barnes and love this scrappy hardworking team...I hate the worst of our fanbase.
Would also add Olivier N to the development list. He showed significant progress this year and think he will continue to work. Wonder if Powell and Bailey return as I could see both leaving which would open a couple of spots for transfers.People act like we didn’t have the best 3point shooting team in the SEC
The problem is when you rely on the 3 ball it goes cold sometimes. Even curry has off nights. We didn’t have any consistent paint presence. Uros misses more close shots than any other 7 footer I’ve seen
If KC and Fulk are the only two gone we’ll be fine. Aidoo, BHH should develop more. Uros can give decent minutes off the bench and we’ll still have Vescovi, JJJ and ZZ
Now if we have more players leave….. yikes
I’m not running around with pitchforks burning down the townNo its not...Rick Barnes didn't shoot 2-18 on 3s. This team, just like the 18-19 team, could have won the tourney, but this is just tournament basketball.
2-18..the man is just unlucky, and that is all. All you can do as a head coach is recruit and put teams together, teach them the best you can, and then hope they gell enough over the season to become a good team.I like Barnes a lot and anyone calling for his firing is being dumb but I think it’s okay to be frustrated, as long as you stay reasonable. Barnes didn’t miss the 3 point shots. The players did. But Michigan had us completely figured out and shut us down. It was a great game from KC and a few timely shots from others that even kept us in it. I think that’s reasonable to be concerned about.
It’s such a disappointing end because it was such a great season. The Vols silenced doubters with some great wins and you can’t take away from the accomplishment of winning the SEC Tournament for the first time in over four decades. Those are real monkeys off the back.
But I get why people are frustrated. There’s no cause to fire anyone, but the NCAA’s been a pretty big kick to the groin more often than not and I understand being perturbed that it happened again and to a team that had demonstrated such poise and resilience.

Yes, that stat is a bad one
Regular season champs is fun but no showing in the tournament sucks, plain and simple
I don’t want to fire him but I’m not acting like he’s the greatest ever either
Damn good coach for us until we reach the tournament. Yes it is one and done but kinda strang we always seem to bail early even when the players change which is who your blaming
Michigan didn't "shut us down"...we missed a ton of good shots that they gave us. They knew the best, and pretty much the only way they were going to beat us was to hope we had one of our off days shooting outside...and we did.I like Barnes a lot and anyone calling for his firing is being dumb but I think it’s okay to be frustrated, as long as you stay reasonable. A few years and yes you could buy this but there are 30 years worth of evidence that Barnes has an issue with this tournament…. It’s ok to question it and wonder what he needs to do to correct this issue. No its not...Rick Barnes didn't shoot 2-18 on 3s. This team, just like the 18-19 team, could have won the tourney, but this is just tournament basketball.
Let's take for example the Kentucky GIRLS team.. They became incredibly hot at the end of the season, won the SEC tournament by beating South Carolina. They got taken out in the first round.Also...I am not blaming the players, all they can do is work to get better at being consistent, and they have.
The greatest teams, the greatest pure shooters in the history of the sport, have bad games or stretches of games where nothing goes in..it is just basketball.
The Dance is a crapshoot...all it takes is one bad game shooting the ball to be bounced.
And...2-18...most of those were great looks because Meatchicken gambled and won...it is that simple. Without a bona fide consistent low post scoring threat, that was always going to be the way to beat us.Ok
So we keep blaming the players even though they change
I told you I don’t wanna fire him but he not the greatest ever….
