Recruiting Forum Football Talk IV

All the talk is about KC being the X factor, and it’s with good reason, but honestly when JJJ is hitting shots this team becomes so much better. He’s the X factor for me. Not only is he an All-SEC defender (**** the SEC for that snub), but here lately he’s showing that he can be a relied on additional scorer as well. He’s not going to take off and be the leading scorer or anything the rest of the year but if we can keep getting 12-15 PPG from him the rest of the way that would be huge.
agreed. but i think that's what's so cool about this team, and what will make it difficult for someone to prepare for, is you never really know who is gonna be 'the guy'.

you have to account for everyone, and that has to stress teams that either can't go to the bench like we can, or is missing a pc or two themselves.

the further along we get in to the tourney, the less likely that becomes, but this weekend, i have to think it bodes well.

add to the fact we are an elite defensive team that will frustrate most any offense we play, we're gonna be a tough out.

Hanging in there...family, as well. My mom starts her treatments Monday, so we're getting set for that.

Thank you for asking, drv...I appreciate it, man. Hope all is well with you and yours.
Thanks for the update, SugarCC

Thanks for asking drvenner.

I am always scared to ask for updates when people don’t update…🤔

Yes, this will be the tough part for coaches. They'll have to manage this. This kid is making more money than his QB coach. They'll have to learn how to manage that like the NFL coaches do when they're coaching highly paid guys. That's the hard part. There can't be favorites or special treatment. You have to earn your spot. If kids have a problem with that, you'll have to cut them loose.
Question for you and the masses that know more than I do on the NIL deals/contracts…. Are there (Can there be) performance incentives/standards that must be attained as well before they get paid or if Nico doesn’t pan out and just rides the pine he still gets his $2M/yr regardless of performance? Granted, for a guy who’s trying to make it to The League he isn’t gonna choose to ride the pine but just curious…. Again, I’m completely naive on all this NIL stuff.

You kinda opened yourself up to it. When you ridicule others for their opinion, prediction or whatever, you deserve it in kind. If he's wrong (which he's not, NI is a Vol), then you can say I told you so. If he's right, prepare yourself for the well deserved ridicule.
I dont recall criticizing him personally. (Granted its been a couple hours). While I do think its silly to decry #insider status of what an idiot 18 yo kid will do. It is his choice, and more power to him.

Criticize away morans.

it will be interesting because the money isn't coming from the school per se. so in theory, you could have a qb coach that simply doesn't care how much the kid is making elswhere. to play here, you have to do A, B, C.

i think, though, the only way that works is if there's certain assurances that thru NIL, the kid only gets that money if they're at that school.

there will be some very hard lessons learned thru this process i'm sure. and some very wealthy people are probably gonna lose some money along the way.....

I have no idea

You compared his take to the Gruden stuff. If you disagree, that's fine but you tried to belittle him, as you are now.

UT was top 8 in every metric the committee cited. Others, like Duke, were not. They claimed to be analytical while cherrypicking the brands they wanted at the top. Events are built around narratives, agendas and ratings, which are all about one thing-- money. Teams that get screwed in seeding are collateral damage. UT just needs to focus on the goal and play our bracket. We have a path-- not an easy one, but winnable.

agreed. seeding gaffe aside, the initial part of our journey is doable. take our chances with who we draw later on. but i feel pretty good about this weekend actually.

Vols get a 2-seed with a slightly easier path to the FF and a bigger target on their heads

Or

Vols get a 3-seed with a slightly tougher path and a huge chip on their shoulders

After Loyola Chicago and Oregon State, I'm not too terribly concerned about trying to carve out some supposed cakewalk to the FF. We can easily lose to any team in the bracket. I would honestly rather the team be fired up and feel disrespected than for there to even be a chance that they come out flat against a fired up opponent.

Now, I get the disrespect and incompetence angle. We SHOULD have been a 2-seed. But this may end up working out in our favor.

First look at betting the 2022 NCAA men's basketball tournament

In terms of sleepers, Houston (+800 to win South Region) stands out. The problem is that the Cougars potentially have to go through Illinois, Arizona and Tennessee. Perhaps it makes more sense to roll over some money lines, but I do like Kelvin Sampson and the Cougars. KenPom ranks them in the top 11 in both adjusted offensive and defensive efficiency.

South 3-seed Tennessee (20-1 title odds) will be a chic pick -- and rightfully so. To be fair, 20-1 is tempting and a number worth betting. The Vols just won the SEC tournament after a season that featured wins over Arizona, Auburn and Kentucky. But they also had some questionable losses and their offense can be average. However, some metrics loved UT once conference play started. I realize questioning Rick Barnes is an annual tradition, but remember that critics used to write off 2019 champion Virginia in the same way.
20. I got 30

No football performance incentives for NIL. In theory, he could ride the pine his whole career.

i don't think our path is that difficult to be honest. i know we lost to nova and have AZ. but if we're in the elite 8 playing AZ gain, i'm totally good with that, win or lose.

Yep, we just have to play the draw. Use it for fuel in the locker room and play with an edge. Take it as far as we can.

Guys like Lunardi look foolish with their nonsensical explanations. The committee placed teams precisely where they wanted them. Their metrics were never going to hold up, and they don't care. They had the power and they used it. UT has the power to make a run. Control the controllables and hang another banner.
