Honestly our seeding came down to just 2 games...

Losing by 28 at Kentucky
Losing by 18 to Villanova

That's it, if the committee is honest with us they'd say that. I think considering we then beat Kentucky twice since then kind of erases/evens that one out. And Villanova was the 3rd game of the season...seems like the other 31 games after it would have more weight...but what do I know.

I will say if we had lost those two games by single digits we'd be a 2 seed imo.

Shocker!….Jay Bilas has every 1 seed coming out of their brackets and has us loosing to Nova🙄 for anyone that may follow him…he had a 3% correct ESPN bracket last year😂😂 and he’s a analyst

And Bilas yesterday was vocal about how we should be a 1 or a 2.... crazy how he's changed his opinion in less than 24hrs...

it's about match ups. he can say we should be a 1 or a 2 and mean it, but also acknowledge we're not, and we have to play, likley anyway, 'nova to move on. and they've proven to be, stylistically, the last couple times we've played them to be a problem for us. so both can be true.

i thought on the whole, the national media yesterday was pretty much on the same page as far as how the committee got our seeding wrong....well at least CBS and ESPN. didn't really check anywhere else. Social media seemed to agree. hell even Cal on SEC network wondered aloud "not sure how TN is a 3 seed?"

they got it wrong. it can't be changed. just win the next game, and it all take care of itself.

Joe Lunardi's 2022 NCAA tournament bracket: Hits, misses from myself and the selection committee

MISS: Everyone is all over the committee for not making SEC champion Tennessee a 1- or 2-seed. The top line was never going to happen for the Vols, but most of the comparisons to the other 2-seeds are valid. It's also an area where I would have gone with the Vols if voting my own ballot. Alas, this is my 22nd consecutive year without a vote, and I believed all along the Vols would be a 3-seed. And I have no quibble with Tennessee slotting just behind 2-seed Villanova, which beat the Vols handily in November.

Oh so if we are going to go with the head to head thing Lunardi, then why didn't we take KY or AU's 2 seed since we beat them????? Why didn't we take AZ's 1 seed since we beat them? What an idiot...

No one can truly explain why because there's no reason for a 3, all the facts add up to a 2 or a 1... We got screwed, so let's move on and prove them WRONG!

nah, i think our perception never really changed because of the road losses at Bama and LSU. i think those are the two games that really hurt. the KY loss, yeah it was bad. but we beat them 2x since then. and Auburn. plus i think everyone will point to that day in Rupp as the last day the old TN team took the court.

so for me, it's those two road games against LSU and Bama.....who are both top 6 seeds in the tourney. lol.

that guy.....lol. talking out of both sides of his mouth. and he knows it. that's why he was so flustered when Reece Davis asked him "why?".

Other than the loss at Rupp where Ky shot lights out the whole game we really didn’t have that bad of losses.
Tx tech- lost in ot on a neutral court and we could hit a shot the whole game. I’ll never forget JJJ tripping his self on an easy dunk.
Tx- we lost on a phantom foul where we didn’t even touch the guy.
Alabama- we lost without two of our top players on the road.

When I think back to the early Villanova game and the TTU game its crazy how different of a team we were. Those games were with Chandler still growing, ZZ hadnt really gained the trust and confidence he has now, BHH and Aidoo weren’t playing hardly any minutes because we still had Olivier, and JJJ was a ghost on offense.

This teams confidence and abilities at this point in the season compared to those early losses is night and day. Keep playing defense at an elite level like this group is and anything is possible.

Remember when those texts came out and John Currie was leaking hire info to Dan Wolken in exchange for him selling the hire to the general public?

My guess is the same story is going on with tournament committee and Joe Lunardie. He probably got leaked bracket info that he gets to present as his own in exchange for that coverage creating 'media consensus' and getting ahead of any scrutiny because its the same as the 'experts' said it would be.

The whole thing is rotten so let's just go win some games.

yeah, we're a totally different team now vs. then. so are they, but this version of TN is wholly different than December/January Tennessee.

i think the sweet 16 is the floor. and two months ago, i'd of just been happy to sneak in as an at large.

now we're hanging a banner, and a top 10 program.

First round upset specials.

South Region: 13 Chattanooga knocks off 4 Illinois, 10 Loyola upsets 7 Ohio St (honestly not an upset...but based on seeding it would be)
Midwest Region: 13 South Dakota St over 4 Providence, 14 Colgate over 3 Wisconsin
West Region: 11 Notre Dame over 6 Bama, 10 Davidson beats 7 Michigan State
East Region: 11 Virginia Tech over 6 Texas

Honestly could see even more with how badly seeded this year's bracket is.

Really saw some elevation of play by Santi, KC, and JJJ.

Santi: 12.0 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 3.0 apg, 1.7 spg, 40% from 3, 90% from FT
JJJ: 14.0 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 3.0 apg, 0.7 spg, 1.3 bpg, 50% from 3, 70% from FT
KC: 14.7 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 5.0 apg, 1.3 spg, 46.8% from 3, 54.2% from FG

I personally think JJJ should have gotten tournament MVP, but no complaints with it going to KC.

All the talk is about KC being the X factor, and it’s with good reason, but honestly when JJJ is hitting shots this team becomes so much better. He’s the X factor for me. Not only is he an All-SEC defender (**** the SEC for that snub), but here lately he’s showing that he can be a relied on additional scorer as well. He’s not going to take off and be the leading scorer or anything the rest of the year but if we can keep getting 12-15 PPG from him the rest of the way that would be huge.

Anyone know the answer to this question…Since we’re an early afternoon game Thursday and winner gets the Mich/Co State winner (they play at 12:15 Thursday) does that mean if we win we’ll play around the same time Saturday (early) or is it random and we could just as likely play at 8pm?

I think it's pretty random based on matchups/potential ratings and they'll pick times Thursday night. I would think we'll be the later game because A) Kentucky would be in the same session as us and they always get a primetime slot (i.e. night). And B) if Michigan wins they also draw a big audience, so I'd imagine we'll more than likely be an evening session. like a 6pm/8:30pm type deal.

Iirc it's like the SEC tourney where they try to keep you in the same time slots more or less. To avoid a team playing till 11 on Thursday and turn around and play at, say, Noon on Saturday.

We're undefeated when JJJ scores 12 or more points. We've lost games when Santi/KC have scored over 15.
