This Neyland remodel is a terrible idea. It’s going to keep screwing us
How so? Some of that concrete is 100 years old & remember that limestone caves dot the area. When Thompson-Boling was built they took great care in geological studies, planning & construction in order to avoid disaster. I love the old Neyland Stadium, too...lots of wonderful memories since attending my first game there in 1964.

Eh, I went to an Orange and White game once as a student and I don’t think I’d ever go back unless my kid wanted to. Even watching it on SECN is pretty brutal.

It has really become unwatchable unless you are a kid. I think O/W hit the lowest of lows during the Butch years. Just do 3 separate autograph sessions for kids on the outside of Lindsey Nelson stadium weekend series with a giant screen set up for watching the 3 Baseball games vs a SEC team Fri/Sat/Sun that would assure packed baseball stadium & overflow watching on screen.. You may pick up some future baseball fans and the kids can get to meet greet their favorite Vol footballers and get autographs and buy NIL products.

The biggest reason I hate it is, it puts us under 100k

Bummer. No NSD breakfast, no O&W game. I not saying I could have definitely made it to either one, but to take away the opportunity is a bummer.

I’ve had several interesting conversations with players at the O&W game.

I made a dry run one spring, for the dates mixed up and showed up a week early. One of the few times I’ve been on campus when the the Vols weren’t playing. The only other times I can remember was a wedding and when AC/DC was in town.

See ya in the fall Vols.

Our crew goes EVERY year and it’s a perfect way to enjoy the spring weather, tailgate and just get together for a day. The game isn’t the draw for us, it’s the time we enjoy together tailgating and seeing Vols is just a little bonus!
Well, hell, with that mindset, let’s just go get drunk in a food city parking lot once it warms up… 😂

... played by Tennessee football players, some of which we've never before seen on the field, making great throws, catches, picks, tackles, spin moves, etc.
Legacies like Bailey and Jancek…

My main gripe is being under 100k seating.now we can have average attendance.. not possible to have crazy numbers anymore
Yet, the dirty secret is…. there aren’t actually 100,000 seats.

Definitely not now
It’d all be a lot simpler if they hadn’t fudged the numbers and shrank the seats back in the 80s just for the sake of sheer numbers. It’s a 101k seat stadium in about a 90-95k seat footprint.

I mean, in that case, you can still do the same thing. There are like a dozen events happening on campus that weekend.

YES - back in the 80s and 90s it was an "arms race" with fan bases and recruits. That mythical number of 100K in the stands meant a lot more to people then than it does now. It had an air of elitism to it that only a handful could claim.

Now a days, recruits want to come to a game and feel the energy, atmosphere, and witness what the stadium actually is on gameday before comitting. Hate to use the old cliché, but in this case, size really doesn't matter anymore.

By biggest worry about this round of renovations is with opening up that lower level, do the acoustics change?
I've heard it told that a Neyland with 85K is louder than a Kyle Field with 100K.

Definitely true. If you’ve ever been to a place like Sanford Stadium in Athens where the 600 level is set back off the field and feels like watching a game from the surface of the sun, you really start to understand how vertical Neyland is.
