Can you give more details about this period of Ukrainian independence? Was Kiev/the Ukraine independent of external domination at any time between the Mongol invasion in the 13th century and the collapse of the Soviet Union thirty years ago?

I find the mind set fascinating that Putin spent millions moving troops and equipment into place in numbers that weren’t just concerning, but almost telegraphing what was going to happen, and people refused to believe it was going to go down. I hoped it would somehow not come to fruition, but you gotta read the tea leaves. As many of us said, you don’t move resources this vast and concentrated on one front if you’re bluffing.

It was a mistake to repeal DADT and then double down on that mistake by treating the military as if it were Haight-Asbury with machine guns.
