Putin dead would be great but that would be starting WWIII.

I would be arming Ukraine and all of it's neighbors. Telling Germany and western Europe that they have purchased their last drop of NG from Russia, we'll ship them NG until they can open up the closed wells in the north sea. Europe will just have to suck it up, this is their fault for cutting their own energy throat. If they chose to do business with Russia then we're out of NATO. They're on their own.

Arming Ukraine + neighbors - aren't we doing that and have been doing that for years now?
Tell Germany/western Europe not to buy any more NG from Russia - is that even necessary now? They appear to be on the same page as the rest of NATO.

I read today that France is ramping up the building of nuclear reactors, 6 new ones in the next few years with another 8 to come and they are extending the licensing for their existing ones past 50 years. WTF is Germany doing?

Meh, I would like to see that data. We may have "reserves", but I wonder at what price would oil have to be in order for those reserves to become profitable. But then again, if oil continues to move towards and past $100/barrel, that co concern may become a moot point.

Gerhard Schroder, even though he hasn't been Chancellor since 2005, set into motion a lot of their current energy policy. The dude is Chairman of the Board of Nord Stream. Granted that policy was evidently continued under Merkel and not reversed.

You had Germany and Grance actively working outside of the UK and US over the past few weeks. They are really the only European countries that matter. Getting the Baltic States and Romania herded in the right direction isn't that big of an accomplishment.

I appreciate your honesty. I will say, though, that the sort of incuriosity you exhibit here is a major reason why we as a people are so easily led into disastrous foreign policy decisions.

And both Scholz and Macron look ridiculous for believing diplomacy was ever a serious option for the fascist in Russia. Biden (and Johnson) were both saying invasion was imminent while Scholtz and Macron were in clear denial.

You would think most people wouldn't entertain that idea after Iraq, Libya, Syria...

In one case there was ethnic cleansing (with a regime which supported ethnic cleansing in Bosnia a few years before). In this case, the “genocide” of Russians was totally fabricated. They aren’t the same. Sorry if that’s inconvenient.

I wouldn't be so quick to close the book on that just yet. They are going to find a weasel way out of sanctioning Russia to maintain their economic interests.

Interesting that our first black president at the time didn't feel the need to intervene in the genocide going on in Rwanda around the same time frame. Not saying he should have, either. But for some reason, there was a double standard...

It would be a terrible idea. Just isolate Russia from the international community until they make the change from within.
