Who decides what integrity is when it comes to NCAA athletics since the NCAA has the least amount of integrity than anyone….. These are arbitrary rules that they enforce or don’t enforce on a whim so it seems… There is a reason that people joke that the NCAA was so mad at Alabama that they punished Alabama A&M( or some other small school).Yea, well, I don’t ever want to be a fan of any of those schools. I am not going to say that Mike Hamilton was a good AD, but no one has the insight as to exactly what transpired.
I want to win as much as everyone else, but we still have to have some sense of integrity. That’s why I am proud of Rick Barnes leading my basketball program. I don’t know about basketball, but he is a great man. Folks should watch Chris Beard’s media availability from Thursday. He had 2 assistants with him that also coached (and one played) under Rick. Really a special coach. Let’s appreciate what we have instead of gushing over someone whose own mistake led to his ouster.

Rick Barnes is a good man but that doesn’t stop me from wanting him to go better in the tournament when it counts( no I don’t want him fired)…. Winning needs to be our main focus for all our athlete programs and work hard everyday to achieve that.
Folks need to remember this was not the first time Pearl had problems with NCAA. His actions with Deon Thomas caused Illinois to go on probation and he was essentially blackballed by D1 teams for several years until UW-M took a chance on him. He definitely has a "win at all costs mentality" imoThe NCAA reacted the way it did because Bruce flat out LIED to them. They lost all trust because he lied. If he has said, yea, we had a cookout and they were there, Bruce would still be our coach. It is that simple.

That is true and just bc you are a good person doesn’t mean that you are aren’t held accountable for taking your programs where it needs to go.You can win AND have good people who lead you to wins. They aren’t mutually exclusive.
The issue at UT hasn’t been the lack of holding firm against the NCAA or lack of protecting its coaches. It’s been the people it has hired to lead it’s programs. If a better coach had been hired after Fulmer (and Kiffin) and Pearl, we probably don’t skip a beat. Those NCAA “issues” would have been nothing.
And it was the stupidest thing to lie over. Only an idiot commits a major violation in an attempt to hide a secondary violation. The NCAA reacted the way it did because Bruce flat out LIED to them. And yet lots of other coaches have flat out lied to the NCAA about far worse infractions, but nothing has happened to them. That's the point you're missing. Yes of course if Bruce had been a choir boy he'd still be here, but other coaches are allowed to do far worse without consequence. The NCAA reacted the way it did because Bruce flat out LIED to them. You have seen how messed up our hiring processes have been….. why do you seem so confident that it is not just as messed up internally….. it seems pretty obvious to me there has been several internal conflicts which has prevented us from providing the support needed and maintaining our focus to win like other top programs…. Doug Dickey was a very strong AD and he had everyone pushing in the same direction….. His only issue is that he only cared about football.

Screw Bruce Pearl. He coaches at another SEC school, and I wish him nothing but failure. Honestly, I get tired of Tennessee fans still hanging on his nuts all these years later. Yes, he was a great coach while here, but he was willing to put the university and the program at risk just to cover his ass when he committed a secondary violation. Telling the truth would have protected himself, the program, and the university, and he would have kept his job. He chose to lie. It doesn't matter what the university knew or didn't know, or what they told him, all he had to do was tell the truth.

@WeezerJust saw where Jaxson Dart and Michael Trigg are being CB'ed to OM in the portal.
Screw Lane Kiffin, too. That bastard abandoned us, tried to steal recruits on his way out the door, and yet some fans still obsess over him. I don't care is USC was his "dream job". I'm glad he failed there, and I hope he fails at OM. The guy bent us over and took it to us, and some fans begged for more. Eff that. Even Layla saw thru his BS.
I don't judge.Funny story from the Bruce Pearl days: I started working at a SNF as a therapist…. One day I was talking to a male nurse about Tennessee Basketball and how I wished I had bought tickets to the elite eight game…. We talked about it and decided to buy tickets and go to the final four if Tennessee made it…. They didn’t but he kept wanting us to hang out( luckily I never did)…. He passed me in the hall one day and tickled my back…. I found out he was gay and trying to date me…. If Tennessee had beat Michigan State we would have then we wouldhave been spending the weekend in a hotel room together. LOL
