Didn't Swain mention something about players jumping into the portal to try and get bigger NIL deals? He didn't mention any names, but it's possible he could have been referring to Banks. I doubt he's just going to call anyone out by name. The Swain info and Banks have nothing to do with each other. I've asked where the Banks stuff is coming from because it's not being reported anywhere.
Swain was talking in general about our NIL program. Banks very well may want more money. But even if he does, that has nothing to do with what Swain said.
It's possible. And as much as I hate it, you guys are kidding yourselves if you think this isn't going to happen. It will happen at A&M too, and their NIL is the best in the country.Didn't Swain mention something about players jumping into the portal to try and get bigger NIL deals? That is exactly what's happening because players have 90%+ of the leverage now. Complete 180 to how it was even just 2 or 3 years ago.Didn't Swain mention something about players jumping into the portal to try and get bigger NIL deals? And no doubt handlers are still involved pushing for more money. That is exactly what's happening because players have 90%+ of the leverage now. Complete 180 to how it was even just 2 or 3 years ago.
Add to it that they're mostly under 20, with amateur negotiation skills, and you have a bunch of head scratching situations.
You’re just our McGill! You give your opinion and explain why you think so. There are others that can’t wait for something bad to happen so they can say “I told you so!” (Have them on ignore.) You admit when you’re wrong! I kinda use you as my bottom on win/losses because I use a if everything goes wrong to if everything goes right scale for the season. Last year I said 5-8 and was ecstatic with 8. But I am going to go with optimistic pessimist since you expect the worst but are hopeful it might not happen. What about people like me? The ones that think we are half empty...but..we also recognize that's it is a lot better than the 95% empty we were a year ago at this point, and believe that we could fill most or all of the way back up if a ton of things go our way for a change, but that it is a very fragile chance at this point?
Does that make me a optimistic pessimist, or a pessimistic optimist?
So have you heard that Banks is considering jumping in the portal over NIL? And by heard, I mean other than the VN rumor. One of the inevitable outcomes of the NIL-transfer portal tandem is what we’re seeing. Current players see what recruits are getting and feel unappreciated. They feel like they’re missing out. So they talk about leaving. Some get rewarded and stay. The ones who don’t get rewarded put their names in the portal. More get rewarded and pull their names out of the portal.
Players who’ve been steadfast see the opposite get rewarded. So what do they do? Exactly what they’ve watched work for others. They want their “value” to be rewarded—i.e., monetized. Programs are exacerbating the problem by incentivizing the path they don’t want others to follow.
Meanwhile, players schools would like to nudge toward the portal stick tight. Their value is rewarded with a scholarship, benefits and opportunities they might not get elsewhere. This creates numbers issues, since churning the roster and upgrading via the portal hinges on culling from the bottom. Academic casualties, conduct violations and medical retirements don’t always get the numbers where they need to be.
UT is dealing with it. It’s time-consuming and distracting, but it’s the new landscape. It will start to sort itself out this spring.
I'm sorry to interject, but didn't I give my reasons for my opinion? So how was I any different? You’re just our McGill! You give your opinion and explain why you think so.
