Very sad to see Larry, but as they say... change is inevitable except from vending machines. Will not recognize it in 5 years.

The NCAA backed itself into the corner. It’s time for them to admit they can’t properly handle the load. College football deserves a better governing body. College football brass has the money to implement a governing body that can tackle and enforce fair rulings. The NCAA has let this portal thing go hog wild and the NIL is open for interpretation and the NCAA has really not laid out what is or isn’t allowed. We need a governing body that is transparent and acts much faster than what we have now. We need clear and simple rules and don’t need to be making rules that are impossible to truly monitor or enforce. College can still have rules and maintain it’s integrity but also not have so much red tape and act more swiftly and fairly to all concerned. Penalties should lie with the folks involved unless a university itself is promoting the conduct. Streamline and modernize the rules in clear language and have a committe ready to tackle the situation and render a decision in a reasonable amount if time. The NCAA as of today isn’t able to do that and has been too reluctant and stubborn to change. It’s nobody’s fault but the NCAA itself. Period! Will not recognize it in 5 years.

and fans wont show up for this stuffSure, we'll recognize it. CFB will morph into MLB style farm teams system. NFL teams will divvy up CFB teams into affiliated franchise relationships. Unaffiliated, smaller school teams will become secondary sources for practice squad members.

I am not saying they control the NIL, but they can control a university like A@M and publicly say whether boosters can or cannot be involved directly with players and do they constitute as being a employee. That’s what I was getting at. There needs to be clarity and if booster is considered a member of university A@M should be looked at because there were rumors that they were directly involved with last class. If a booster isn’t deemed a member then ours are free to do their thing. Everybody should be on level playing field and punishments should be handed out fairly no matter the institution. This is where the NCAA needs to be out front and in public early on clearly sending the message what is and isn’t allowed. Same with the portal, they should be able to step in if it is not working right and re-tool it. Too slow acting and not out in front of situations. The list goes on. No more excuses. We need a panel consisting of former AD’s,Presidents, Coaches and players. A panel of 20, and 5 from each category. They can be the new ncaa panel. I have waited for the NCAA to get it’s act together for years like many fans. We got a great game but poor leadership. I am afraid if the NCAA doesn’t get it’s act together one day the power 5 will form their own governing body and if it comes to that the NCAA governing body need only to look at themselves. GBO!the NCAA can't control NIL. Its controlled by the state's that have passed legislation to enact it. Its different from state to state. The money is coming from entities outside of the schools so the NCAA or any college governing body has no say in how it works. All they can control is how involved schools are in it and based on Tennessee state law, schools in Tennessee cannot be involved. The law is different state to state. Your right is open for interpretation but there is nothing the NCAA (which is the school presidents), conferences or schools can do about it.
The governing needs improving, no doubt at all about that. I can't imagine the school presidents turning that governance over to any independent entity which means they may massage and change the NCAA we see and know, but it will still be similar to what its been. Assuming CF stays similar to what its been.
Sure, we'll recognize it. CFB will morph into MLB style farm teams system. NFL teams will divvy up CFB teams into affiliated franchise relationships. Unaffiliated, smaller school teams will become secondary sources for practice squad members.

Who cares? College football already kind of sucks. It’s getting worse by the year. This stuff will only exacerbate the problem. Paying players and getting unionized will only make things much worse. The NFL has sucked for years and I had hoped college football would remain. Sadly it’s starting to suck as well.
I said a while back that the athletes would unionize down the road..........and got blitzed for it.Who cares? College football already kind of sucks. It’s getting worse by the year. How do you see that working functionally? Why would there still be student-athletes and how would that work in an NFL framework? Just seems this eliminates the need for college football programs. just setup a minor league system for high school players.

The H.S. concept would be too problematic in the scenario I envision. As for how they set it up, we just have to see what the power players work out. It's coming because they want it here. They always did. The players that got in trouble in the past for accepting sponsor money as far back as Jim Thorpe, the alternate leagues from USFL to arena football, even the NBA's getting eligibility to draft high schoolers, starting with the Reggies Harding fiasco, way before NBA rules allowed the change. Such a farm concept was always desired, though denied, but covert and overt actions say otherwise. Now, beyond that, I don't really care what they do because I have no power to stop it and objecting to it won't change anything. Besides, the consensus is that capitalism is the greatest profit system ever created, so might as well step back and watch another example unfold.
I think it's possible there will be Congressional action to disallow or at least put limitations on this movement. I say that for two reasons:Will not recognize it in 5 years.

NEVER, EVER underestimate human gullibility or outright stupidity. Not ever. The Romans knew this when they instituted the Colosseum gladiator games. So did tribes like the Atzec and Olemic with the game of Ullamaizili. You will always get fans crazy enough to be taken advantaged of. Or are simply gluttons for some kind of violence related activity.
Trust the word of the one who knows.
I think it's possible there will be Congressional action to disallow or at least put limitations on this movement. I say that for two reasons:
1. Title IX may come into play
2. There are far more state universities without the kind of backing the "rich" schools can help provide either directly or indirectly than the others. That would give the "no-haves" the advantage in passing legislation. And this won't be a political issue in the conventional sense. It would be the "haves"vs the "have nots"......and there a lot more of the latter.
They have opened Pandora's box. Will not recognize it in 5 years.
