this ten scholly talk has to be bs. who in their right minds would do that? ****ing morons
I don’t know why we aren’t telling the NCAA we took a 14 scholly reduction this past season. Take 5 for 2022 on top of already firing the entire staff and all associated with the McDonald’s scandal, and making all the players involved transfer out, and be done with it. Absolute insanity to take a 10 scholly reduction on top of all that!! That’s almost death penalty type stuff.

Should college coaches be able to cut scholarship players? I started thinking about this because of the current changes. If players are going to get financial compensation for playing, should they be subject to being cut if they fail to perform? I get that they're not technically being paid to play, they're being paid for their name, image, and likeness, but if we're being honest, they're getting paid to play. So if that's the case, should they be subject to the expectations of a job where failure to perform can lead to being let go? I can see arguments for both sides. Not all scholarship kids are going to benefit from the NIL, but, at the same time, the players themselves have really brought NIL into the picture, so should there be consequences to its addition? The whole thing is a can of worms, and there absolutely should be uniform rules and regulations to the process to create a fair playing field, but with the NCAA losing its teeth on the subject (thanks to SCOTUS), who has the authority to create and enforce those rules?

Williams has potential but his season was underwhelming IMO. It wasn't bad for a Freshman but damn we're living in crazy times when a guy who only played ok is causing a bidding war, kids who are still in HS are getting 6 or 7 figures and upperclassmen OL who also aren't that great are asking for 3rd or 4th round money to come back for 1 season.

I think NIL is a disaster and is not sustainable. Are schools going to pay 25 recruits every year and pay current players on the roster? What are the protections if kids get hurt, get in trouble or just aren't good?

This was all done terribly and should have been set up as a percentage based revenue sharing model paid out by schools or conferences. That would have been much more equitable than the crazy bs we have now.
It sucks for us to see all of this that is going on right now and feel we are losing out and getting farther and farther behind. However, I think playing the long game on this is what will eventually win out. This frenzy of throwing out all of this money will end. Boosters will get tired of throwing millions every year to sign a top class then have a bunch of busts and the team underachieve. I wonder how motivated some of these kids are making millions. Maybe the kids who are talented but aren’t getting that kind of money have massive chips on their shoulders. I want those kids!

Also, I’m curious what kind of money is thrown to the recruiting sites to elevate players to a higher ranking so they may get more money. I honestly like our approach…have a plan, recruit the roster, evaluate recruits and go after who fits the mold you have set and has talent to win; coach and develop those players. Get NIL money to the players on the roster more, and not as much to the recruits…that’s what it was intended for anyways!! We just need to get through the next year or 2 and get on the other side of these violations. Try to be a little more patient and let the coaches work. We have a staff who can coach finally. Let them coach and develop like they did this past year. It will only get better.

Having just gone through the holidays, a lot of us have fatter behinds.

;)

I'd never intentionally say something hurtful like that. I always tease the posters I like.
I know you and Invol prod each other a lot, and I am all about teasing him about being old, but he just lost his dad, so I didn’t think that comment was warranted in that light. He and his family are hurting right now.

Great post. One thing I will add is that getting 6 or 7 figures right outta high school would have ruined most of us as people....it damn sure would have me. I would have partied like crazy(did anyway) and bought all kinds of stupid ish.

I hated hearing stories about college athletes sometimes not having enough money to buy clothes, go out to eat, etc. but this is almost worse. Bryce Young is a special kid who was raised right to be one of the first to get a huge deal but still go out and be elite on the field and still be humble. Ok, now I feel gross about praising a Bammer.

Agreed. We were crippled already and only had a decent year because we hired a coach who can do more with less. Admin needs to grow a sack and give the NCAA double Gauldens. They are a paper tiger anyway.

Conferences have the authority but they won't use it. Everyone is chasing the SEC and the SEC wants to stay out in front.
