Tyler Baron in the portal (or not)

I know for a fact, not rumor or some silly sports talk show that T Barron was being recruited by KY, Cincy and Louisville. That is a fact. He made official visits to some of these schools during HS. A HS game played in KY his senior year he made visits after the game and did not travel with his team back to Knoxville. He thought he was Ohio St material but that did not seem to be the case. He always saw himself playing north of the TN-KY border while a college player. I was shocked when he signed with TN and did not trek north of the border. My bet it was because his father was in Knoxvegas he signed with UT. With him gone he is probably going where he originally wanted to go.

This is disgusting! I really don’t know how much longer I’ll be able to stomach college football?! And that hurts to admit because I love me some college football.
GBO!!

My advice is come back Sept 1st, that is about where I am at with all this stuff

It’s just an overall feeling I’m getting. College football is feeling like a business now imo, not good. To each their own I guess.

Everyone has their opinions.

I wish the kid luck, but the fact is UT's defense wasn't very good. Things have to change and this is just part of the rebuilding process.

Parents need to learn to sit on the sidelines and spectate. Let the coaches coach and players play. It’s hard to watch sometimes, but they‘re all adults. Not everybody’s baby boy is going to be an all-star.

Thought Mays got a transfer waiver pre-portal for his Dad’s finger accident lawsuit against UGA

he went through the portal but that was prior to last year's ruling on immediate playing time. You had to ask for a waiver to play immediately which he did and it was granted.

The problem is we have a shortage of decent players on defense

I definitely agree, and I hate that he is leaving. I just don’t think he is a Difference maker I thought he played soft a lot of the time.

What other reason?

Likes another coach that recruited him more than these who didn't....
Doesn't like the academics at UT....
Broke up with his girlfriend....
Isn't popular with teammates....
Is homesick and can't get away as often as he wants...
Feels like he won't be able to compete well going forward...
Coaches asked him to gain weight and become an interior DL if he wants to keep playing...
Garner is working him harder than he wants to work...
Thinks coaches are too hard on him or biased against him....
Doesn't want to compete at the SEC level with the commitment it requires....
Told he needs to improve or lose PT....
Wants to be closer to family members....
Doesn't like the trainers...
Decided to change majors...
Not where he wants to be academically...
School is too hard....
Wants to keep his major but doesn't like the teachers in the department...

There are probably a million reasons that have nothing at all to do with NIL. In fact, he would be almost certain to get some kind of NIL deal at UT. There's no guarantee that he'll get a P-5 spot much less NIL money when he leaves.
Seinfeld (UT) response....

How on gods green earth could this make sense. Comin sense makes you think either
A. He’s unhappy that we’re still trying to be more defensive line help as that could eventually impact opportunities or..

B. He doesn’t like the hard/I’m your fave style of the way cRG coaches.
It’s most likely a combination of the 2
Or .....
C. We're getting someone thru the portal that will put him on the bench next year...

Either way, might as well get used to it..

That role is more about player development off the field than on.

Right. Those guys do quality control with players on academics, ensure housing/dorm arrangements, etc

Wouldn't it be something if Abernathy was fired for being the Player Development contact for Tiyon Evans?

Makes room for the freshman edge guys from GA and NC to make an earlier impact.

No. Hueple fired his dad from the staff and so Baron thought he would leave to. Patrick Abernathy was Director of Player Development and was let go today and hours later Baron enters portal. This was t a surprise after finding out about the kids dad wasn’t being retained.
Yes. More players entered the portal this week. That was what I was referencing. So far this offseason it had been fairly quiet for us until this week.

Massive loss if he does in fact leave
I agree. Him along with the duo of Harrison and Byron Young hand me excited. I do think the duo could each plug in a starter roll by themselves but were very nice spelling each other at times this season. I think they have a similar style of play

He’s not a dynamic pass rusher. We should have been starting him a strong side all year and Young at Weak side. We need pass rushers desperately in the portal. We’re stuck with cornbread’s 290 lb DE leftovers. Our back 7 won’t improve until we can pressure the QB and keep contain.
he couldn’t contain/squeeze the run, Put. O pressure on qb . Best of luck ,
wasn’t very physical. Hate it
