The Atlanta Braves

Once your team has lost a couple of games and has no shot at the semifinals, pro prospects should all just opt out right then. Everything from that point is meaningless
In your opinion.

One could also argue that the entire sport is meaningless, and shouldn’t be played at all.

It’s incredible people don’t see this. Hell it wasn’t until the 70’s until they considered them for national champions.
...and there wasn't even a mechanism to get #1 and #2 to face off in a postseason game until 1998.

The Poll system, then Bowl Coalition, then Bowl Alliance was really a bizarre thing when viewed in today's context of everybody wanting to have a national champion.

If folks don't like NIL, that's fine...but college football would need to go back to how it was in 1930 when there was no money in it. Basically glorified intramurals. Very few (perhaps no) games on TV, small stadiums, no apparel, etc. And nobody wants that.

Yep. I'm pretty much indifferent either way on the whole thing. Just wonder if someone like Herbstreit said the players today don't love the game, wonder if he would announce said games for free and not take his salary

Gotta find that balance between “me first” and “we first”.
IMO, an opt out of a non-championship bowl game is that balance. If you get dudes opting out of regular season games, even if the team is out of contention, that’d be a bridge too far for me. And I think NFL teams would see if that way too, which is why guys don’t do it (yet).
