It helps them more than it helps us. Building through recruiting 4 year guys is the way to go. It helps champ contenders more because they can find that missing piece. Other teams need pieces.Cuts both ways, IMO. It’s been awfully helpful to us. Think we would’ve made a bowl without some portal help? It helps teams like us accelerate the rebuild by allowing us to find bandaids - sometimes more than bandaids. On the flip side, the top handful of obvious difference makers are usually gonna go to teams that are already contenders, convinced they are the missing piece. $$$ being roughly equal, that is.
It sucks but all three of those guys are day one starters at Bama so I can’t blame them for going there. A lot of us were thinking we would be able to get our picks of the litter with regards to transfers but the fact of the matter is we will always have to compete with the likes of Bama and UGA for the best guys and this year we also have to deal with UF, LSU and Oklahoma who are all going to take the max amount of transfers.

You have to opt in before you bet though. I dont want anyone to get burned because they missed that stepAny of you guys that use Fanduel, check your promos. They are giving a free $10 same game parlay for tonight's basketball on TNT. You make an SGP, $10 max, and you'll get a bonus for the amount you wager, even if it loses. Has to be over +400 odds.

This season shows the issue with building through transfers. Now we lost 2 maybe 3 although I think Tilman comes back, both of which are transfers. They took playing time from our younger guys in Hyatt, Coby, Keyton, Callaway etc..... Now unless we get more portal receiver through begging we only have 1 experienced reciever going into next year. Transfer created a huge hole in the receiver spot. It also killed our tackle spot because it limited reps the guys behind Cade got which slows down their overall development.
As bad as HT is in pass coverage, he is good against the run. HT led Bamas defense is total tackles on the season, so yeah id say he made a significant impact. Without him mabye they lost another game, maybe UGA beats them in Atlanta. HT is playing with something way more significant on the line. That’s debatable. Is Bama this year with To’o To’o a whole lot different than Bama this year without him? Or is Tennessee this year with Hooker a whole lot different than Tennessee this year without him? I think UT is a completely different team without him and misses a bowl. The argument could definitely be made that Hooker meant more to us than To’o To’o meant to Bama.
Building through 4 year guys is ideal, but at some point you’ve got to make some noise on the field to attract a certain level of recruit. The portal allows teams like us to get a few wins along the way to the rebuild.
This year wouldnt have mattered if they didnt make a bowl. Expectations were for them not to. Killing the development of young players long term like we are doing is going to be much more hurtful.Pruitt’s recruiting put us in a bind at WR, that had nothing to do with the portal. In fact, where would we have been this year without Payton and Jones?
