And next up, the defense:

No ESPN: Defense

DL:
Not too much to see here. Missouri DL takes a hit.

EDGE:
The biggest reason I wanted to do this analysis. ESPN really hamstrung Pearce and Josephs. They go from EDGE-16/17 to 13/14 in the new rankings. The best SEC EDGE commits outside of Alabama/Georgia/A&M in this cycle.

LB:
Nice bump for Elijah Herring. Still not the best looking LB class.

DB:
Also not too much to see here. Decent bump for Thomas.

ATH:
Very solid bump for Harrison.

I thought this was @ChattaTNVol for a second with this in-depth analysis. Great job!

Some of the Memphis media is holding Penny accountable for last Saturday and that it’s his fault for his team not being able to field enough guys to play. Namely Giannoto and Calkins, the two main Memphis columnists. Listened to Giannoto rip Penny a new one on 92.9 today. And halfway hinted that he can’t blame Barnes for his stance.

I will put the 70s up against any era for movie supremacy.

1. Jaws
2. Smokey and the Bandit
3. The Bad News Bears
4. Deliverance
5. Taxi Driver
6. Patton
7. Alien
8. The Godfather
9. The Outlaw Josie Wales
10. Jeremiah Johnson
Apocalypse Now. One of the greatest movies of all time.

You also have Solaris and Stalker across the globe. Otoh Fellini was putting out worse stuff and the Italians and French were tailing off in general. Kurosawa was calm...Spielberg had just awoken with Jaws...perfect. I'd throw in Clockwork Orange...Annie Hall...Serpico...Chinatown...Network...Rocky...French Connection. Star Wars ofc. Interesting time. Not sure if it was exactly the 50s or 60s as far as quality, but quantity definitely ramped up especially domestically.

You know what the directors of the 70s didn't rely on?

Analytics.

Re-posting, since tech problems. Duh…
Anyway, I wanted to take a stab at something I started last year: composite recruiting grades / rankings that don’t include ESPN. ESPN grades have proved to lag behind the other sources, even to the point of making the 247 composite less predictive of NFL draft picks than the pure 247 grade. I’ve seen the analysis somewhere but don’t feel like digging for it now, lol…

Here is a re-evaluation of the 2022 Tennessee recruiting class (No ESPN):

In the new composite rankings, Tennessee moves up to 12th nationally, and 5th in the SEC. Below are the teams sorted by average recruit rating. Tennessee gets the biggest bump in the conference, Kentucky holds mostly even, Missouri/LSU/Auburn all drop.

Sorry this is the 80’s movies forum

Tried to listen to the Bleav in Tennessee podcast because one of the hosts is a VFL…. They were breaking down our signees. Neither were impressed with Dylan Sampson. Said his highlights is just him breaking it outside and going untouched over and over. So they can’t tell if he’s actually a good back. Was complimentary of Justin Williams and said he was good at forcing bad tackles which is a skill most backs don’t learn. Had to turn it off because the reed bacon guy won’t ever shut up and then they were saying they weren’t impressed with Tyre West.

Reed bacon was saying it mostly. Said it was dumb that his Twitter handle had uGA in it when he was picking between us and FSU. Guesss he didn’t know he was a long time uga commit.

Every episode they do is over an hour long and 40 of those minutes is just reed bacon rambling on endlessly. I’d rather listen to a 20 minute podcast of Kyler Kerbysons insights.
