They don’t explain everything…much less overexplain. Which allows the moviegoer to go their own pace. Prolly why not everything they put out is a blockbuster…ticket wise. My daughter and I will break up laughing through Raising Arizona and her boyfriend and my wife will sit there with cartoon question marks over their head. 😅

This is so true. I've had similar experiences. I remember talking to my dad about the Big Lebowski. He didn't find it funny and said it didnt make any sense. But it made me think about how most movies are about the plot. Most people watch movies to figure out what's going to happen. Whats the big twist at the end?

But the Coen Bros plot is only really secondary, its not the point. It makes more sense the more times you watch it. The movie is more about how these characters respond to all these weird situations they find themselves in. All the characters matter and are interesting, even the ones in the background who only get one line. Coens want you to understand the characters first and foremost even, and especially if they are ridiculous.

Re-posting, since tech problems. Duh…
Anyway, I wanted to take a stab at something I started last year: composite recruiting grades / rankings that don’t include ESPN. ESPN grades have proved to lag behind the other sources, even to the point of making the 247 composite less predictive of NFL draft picks than the pure 247 grade. I’ve seen the analysis somewhere but don’t feel like digging for it now, lol…

Here is a re-evaluation of the 2022 Tennessee recruiting class (No ESPN):

In the new composite rankings, Tennessee moves up to 12th nationally, and 5th in the SEC. Below are the teams sorted by average recruit rating. Tennessee gets the biggest bump in the conference, Kentucky holds mostly even, Missouri/LSU/Auburn all drop.

No ESPN: Position Groups
Next, a look at some position groups. I’ll limit this to SEC teams outside of Alabama/Georgia/LSU/A&M to get a better sense of how we’re doing relative to teams on our level right now.

QB:
Jackson gets a nice bump, from QB14 to QB10. Sam Horn drops a bit.
QB.PNG

RB:
Not much movement for Williams/Sampson, but Missouri’s Jones takes a big hit. Tumbles behind Williams. On3 liked him significantly less than ESPN did.
RB.PNG

WR:
Some big bumps for the Vol receivers. Webb goes 254->190, White from 324->251. ESPN really didn’t like either very much, and they were outliers in that regard. Also of note, the gap between Burden/Brown is quite a bit narrower than in the standard composite.
WR.PNG

OL:
Not as great here. ESPN like our OL more than the other sites.

Offensive Summary:
Against everyone other than the aforementioned top 4, we pulled the QB1, RB2/4, WR5/6, and the OL2 according to this composite version.

And next up, the defense:

No ESPN: Defense

DL:
Not too much to see here. Missouri DL takes a hit.

EDGE:
The biggest reason I wanted to do this analysis. ESPN really hamstrung Pearce and Josephs. They go from EDGE-16/17 to 13/14 in the new rankings. The best SEC EDGE commits outside of Alabama/Georgia/A&M in this cycle.
EDGE.PNG

LB:
Nice bump for Elijah Herring. Still not the best looking LB class.

DB:
Also not too much to see here. Decent bump for Thomas.
DB.PNG

ATH:
Very solid bump for Harrison.

I hate "woke" remakes.
A remake where the characters are trying to be cognizant of the issues surrounding black communities in society?

Can't think of any really. I've seen remakes with black casts, such as the Wiz or Steel Magnolias. Not sure if they were necessarily about wokeness toward minority social issues though. The Wiz was before my time and Steel Magnolias isn't getting my time 😅

One could be interesting though...a sort of "same narrative, but from a different perspective" sort of thing. Who knows

The Toy
Dead Poet's Society
Dune
Stand and Deliver
Plains, Trains, and Automobiles
Top Gun
Highlander
Rain Man
Commando
Rambo
Tron
War Games
Bloodsport
Lethal Weapon
Conan
Over the Top
Red Sonja
Enemy Mine
Road House
The Golden Child. . .

Dang, the list just goes on and on and on. . .
Add Starman as another.

Then make new shows. Recycling old shows where old white English dudes morph into Queen Latifa lacks creativity and looks like pandering....which it is.

I will put the 70s up against any era for movie supremacy.

1. Jaws
2. Smokey and the Bandit
3. The Bad News Bears
4. Deliverance
5. Taxi Driver
6. Patton
7. Alien
8. The Godfather
9. The Outlaw Josie Wales
10. Jeremiah Johnson
The argument over books being made into movies started with Jeremiah Johnson
for me. The book was fantastic the movie ok. Maybe it’s the actor cause Robert Redford absolutely
destroyed The Horse Whisperer.

Most others knew to what I was referring. I have no problem with "different perspective". I do have a problem when you fundamentally change a story and even ignore history, all in the name of "inclusivity". I have zero problems with a remake such as The Wiz, or even Steel Magnolias, but there are other remakes that seek to reshape reality into something it was not, all in the name of being woke. I'm not going to expound further as it would cross into being political, and that's not what this forum is for. And the conversation itself is almost impossible to have without one side passively suggesting the other is "racist" when racism plays no part in the conversation. It's not about black or white, gay or straight, or any of that, it's, as I said, about fundamentally changing the story to be "inclusive" just for the sake of inclusivity.

Your argument is invalid because you left Star Wars off your list.
