What’s funny is I’m on a group text with UT friends and my brother. A friend asked where to send the gas bill and I sent the very same thing.

Also a hotel bill and more importantly, the explanation to my boys that the game won’t be played.
I feel bad for all of those who spent a lot of money to get to Nashville just for this to be canceled

They should break it out from their base package and offer it as an add on at the higher price. Let the market decide.

Problem is, they have to pay carriage fees to Disney to carry the content, and in order to recoup that cost, they have to charge all subscribers. But you’re right, once they come to an agreement with Disney, they’ll probably up-charge for a sports premium package that includes more ESPN content, and if you want SEC network or something like that, you’ll have to pay a premium. Sound familiar?

Well at least you can make a judgment of whether it's worth it to add the ESPN package.

Cable shifting to streaming, not sure why anyone is surprised here. YouTube TV is already about $60 a month, Hulu Live a bit more & increasing, Sling is $40ish but limits how many devices can stream at a time.

Won’t be long until they are all charging about the same as Xfinity, Dish, Direct are anyway.

There will be some on here that will equate "the right way" with reducing the chance for championships because we limit the talent we are willing to take, but I personally would be happy with 9-11 win seasons, returning to national respect, and eliminating the constant drama. If we can catch fire occasionally, that's a bonus, but consistent competence is more desirable to me than boom/bust. I'm too old for this crap.

It's the Pat Summitt model-- excellence in character, athletics and academics. Can UT replicate it across the marquee sports and field championship-caliber teams? What Pat did was exceptional. She was exceptional.

I want to get back to being elite in the sports where we once were and find a way to get there in the ones where we've traditionally come up short. There will be highs and lows, but higher highs and higher lows is a good way to build.

Could be wrong, but I thought contact tracers have to quarantine for so long, or at least in the sec rules. Negative test doesn't mean they can't spread it. I believe it's been said you're most able to spread the first 5 days of infection, but may not even test positive during that time. I believe that is a big part of the point behind contact tracing. Or not - I remember reading this a year ago but my memory is shite

Either way we should get the W. Just because.

And the way UT handled it was AWESOME. Scrimmage in Nashville...free tix to Lady Vols...great stuff.
Our AD has been great so far. Go Lady VOLS

oh I agree. But I anticipate the base price will be the same base price the service cost before they offered a $15/month discount for losing espn content. Then if folks want more, they pay the up-charge. So the regular subscriber gets less content, and the folks who want more sports are paying more than they had to pay previously to get that same content. We’re back to the way the system worked before streaming services.

That's exactly what I'm saying. The SEC/B1G elites become pro and the non-elite is where you see "amateur" athletics.

The NCAA/schools are about to lose in the courts and student athletes will be called employees. At that point, it's over for amateur status for college athletes and payments won't be expected, they'll be required.

Like it or not, the United States courts won't care and Justices of the Supreme Court (like Kavanaugh, a very conservative Justice) have indicated it's coming.
**** that...do these dudes understand that if it becomes a pro leagues and they are truly going to be employees...then there will have to be a draft and a salary cap. No more picking where you want to go...you go where your f'n told or stay home and suck your thumb.

Can YouTube survive without offering ESPN?

It can survive but it’ll be impacted no doubt. They’ve walked away from other providers in the past when they thought they’ve been given unfair pricing, but Walt Disney is a giant to battle. I personally think they will cave but it’ll take a few billing cycles or more for them to see the real effect before they do. Hopefully the cave sooner but I’m not all that optimistic from what I’ve read about the situation.
