Except that you don't want the smartest QB. The smartest QB would have opted not to play football in the first place. You want a good Xs and Os QB who's stupid enough to risk his health playing this game. Not playing this bowl game shows a lack of heart imo. A true competitor wouldn't so that.

I'm well aware of the financial realities of recruitment. My bubble is fine.

I'm not opposed to NIL, but there is a huge difference in players being able to benefit from their name being on the jersey you bought vs it simply being a way for billionaires to legally buy athletes under the guise of NIL. The way it's currently structured, the rich will get richer, and everyone else will suffer. So yeah, I guess it is the American way.

that’s the way it has been for many many years, long before this current structure. Even if there was a bunch of rules and restrictions for what was allowed, they will still work their way around it like they did before. Only difference is now they don’t have to hide it as much

So bowl games are just going to be a chance for practice for underclassmen going forward. Are they going to start skipping the last few games if the teams are favored?

No. Just saying he is currently thought of as the 1st QB taken in the draft. I personally would rather see him play. But, it makes complete sense that he does not. If it was HH and he was leaving I would say he def should play to improve his exposure and potential draft grade….

Looks like we may just sit the starters for every single game, just to keep them healthy, in case we make the playoffs or they get drafted,

I think Heupel is a solid recruiter overall. I get it Fickell basically swooped in and took over the conference but Heupel wasn’t terrible recruiter there
Average recruit rating UCF under Heupel
2018 class 83.64 (2nd behind Cincinnati)
2019 class 84.24 (2nd behind Cincinnati)
2020 class 83.83 (4th behind Cincinnati, Memphis, SMU) Judging by this I don’t see how he’s a terrible recruiter like people have said. I get he isn’t a dominant recruiter but overall he’s very solid.
2023 class for us will be Top 10

The original conversation was about 1 player and 1 situation. Bowls and players, plural, is a different conversation. I don’t agree that bowls are irrelevant. Certain bowls do seem to be less relevant with the playoffs though…
