Forgot about Bailey. I wonder if he starts to make a push for playing time next year.
I think a lot of guys see significant playing time if they show they are a viable 2 spot guy.

It was hard for us to rotate this year because of the massive drop off. But I think kids are realizing they will get playing time if they can be just as good as the guy they are behind.

Breeds competition and keeps guys happy.

I’m confused on Baron topic. Where are y’all saying he is moving over to? I thought he was already a DE. I don’t see him as a DT. Maybe moving him to strongside? Kind of thought he should there anyway opposite By

I think so, he got some reps this year but he's still got 3 years (maybe 4 if they challenge that wasted RS during the COVID season) and we had more depth this year so he didn't rotate in the 2 deep as much.
Where are you getting the redshirt story from? That season didn’t count towards eligibility. For some reason, the UTSports list players who participated in that season as redshirts (like Maurer and Harrison Bailey), but they were never exercised. It doesn’t even matter if he was injured…his redshirt hasn’t been burned. Now they may have documented it so he could possibly apply for an ADDITIONAL redshirt season.

Good day yesterday. Tennessee finished where they wanted. They planned to take around 20, leaving spots to fish experienced players out of the portal. They’re also leaving the option to self-sanction.

UT has stability among the marquee coaches, and we’re reaping the rewards of that. They’re a tight group, very similar in philosophy and commitment. That’s intentional. UT is going to build a certain way across sports, recruiting a certain type of player and looking for a good fit, good character, solid academics and positive team relationships. The coaches aren’t going to take—or keep-- highly rated players who don’t fit, don’t care about academics, won’t follow team rules and would be disruptive to what UT is invested in doing.

UT is sticking with “the right way” to build, and coaches like Barnes, Harper, Vitello, Weekly and now Heupel show what that is. Some of the players who have left show what it isn’t.
Yup, realized this when you look at all of our recruits and we haven’t taken anyone who has “Grade Issues” or “Attitude Issues” I mean almost every recruit we took was Well Spoken and had a Good GPA.

The biggest thing I noticed was almost every coach stated that their kid was coachable and a great teammate and that’s nice to hear.

I think this is the most optimistic and positive post I've ever seen from you. Good to hear that UT athletics are finally on the same page and actually have a vision for success.

Best assortment of coaches that UT athletics has had in a really long time. All of our biggest sports are in good hands at the same time.

I haven’t looked in day or so but last I saw Florida wasn’t optimistic about Tosh as Oregon and Lanning had swooped in and he likely goes there. Also some talk he may still not be allowed in SEC.
Saw it in the ESPN story covering Urban’s firing. Also mentioned the TE’s coach favored to end up at VT. It’s why I added “rumored”.

Wonder if Navy is interested in playing here...he might be a solid take in the portal if ya want a QB that is willing to hang around and develop. Not sure if he starts, but could be a good backup option.
Doubt they’d extend a scholarship. I’m positive they’d take him on as a PWO.

He's an OLB/DL guy. Meaning the bulk of his snaps were to pressure outside or drop into coverage in zone looks with exotic blitzes. If he moves to DL fully then he wouldn't spend much (if any) time dropping into coverage or standing to pressure. Would be a hand in the dirt rusher the majority of snaps and likely on the field more often.

What it does is allow him to add some size/strength and also allows the front to be more athletic as well. Having the ability to have Baron/Byron/Pearce/Josephs all on the field at similar times to pass rush

On his Bio it says he redshirted that season.

Yup, never take away hope.
My Mom was diagnosed with incurable lung cancer that should have killed her within 3 months. 13 YEARS later she passed away from something totally different.
She told me that she would beat it because she wasn’t going anywhere until she got to see my children. My Mom always told me that I could do and be anything that I wanted if I tried hard enough. Then she proved it to me. 🤗

Love it. My grandfather got black lung disease at 51 from his work in the mines. He made it to 91. Same reasoning - family. He started walking a few miles a day…and just kept doing it.

There will be some on here that will equate "the right way" with reducing the chance for championships because we limit the talent we are willing to take, but I personally would be happy with 9-11 win seasons, returning to national respect, and eliminating the constant drama. If we can catch fire occasionally, that's a bonus, but consistent competence is more desirable to me than boom/bust. I'm too old for this crap.

Let’s play a game…

Things you never expected to say one year ago.

1. Thank goodness we have Hendon Hooker and Spencer Rattler is at South Carolina
Heupel is finally the guy to get us back into the national spotlight/relevant and make us elite again.

Couldn’t agree more. There’s nothing wrong with being Wisconsin for most years, as long as give yourself a shot every now and then.

Papaw at 96 from the same thing. Chewed bakker til the end.

Especially when the playoff expands.

But either way, 10-2 is never going to be easy in the SEC and can’t be the baseline expectation (let alone something better than that). That’s easy enough to say, I know — it won’t make those 2-4 Saturdays where the Vols lose any more fun in the moment, but the alternative is what we’ve been doing for the last 15 years…
