Matt Campbell really shot himself in the foot. Looks like he will be stuck at Iowa St.

Maybe, makes 4 million plus at Iowa State right now. He's from Ohio and played at Pittsburgh he could just be waiting on what he considers his dream job.

No clue what he considers his dream job though...Penn State maybe?

I agree with you. However, a common counter-argument that people will use is that Saban was able to sign the #1 class his first year at Alabama. It is unfortunate, but we have to realize that won't be happening here for awhile.
Saban won a national championship at LSU before going to Alabama. How would that argument make sense?

I honestly thought NIL would be about the strength of a fanbase buying merch, and was comfortable that TN would be ok. Never envisioned that it would be about ultra-rich people buying players without salary caps. The NFL places "reasonable" limits on pay, and corporate sponsorships are generally limited by the business value of the sponsorship. NIL, so far, doesn't appear to have either a salary cap or meaningful business value (in some cases). Can't believe it will stay this way long term.
Some are going to be shocked that you care what players are making. The game will still be the same. Lol

I swear, this is the last ill say...

Saban not only called Pruitt to come and coach for him once, but twice...the second time to be his DC. Mark Richt made that call, and Jimbo Fisher made that call, as well. Whether it was with good players, bad players, built or not built, those three men thought enough of Jeremy Pruitt to hire him to lead their defenses. Between those three men, they have (I believe) 12 National Championships, 16 Conference Championships, and 556 wins. So, whenever anyone is arguing with me about whether or not Jeremy Pruitt is a good DC or not, they're really arguing AGAINST all that.

I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to see the look on Nick Saban's face if @InVOLuntary or anyone else could argue this point with him. "Nick, you sure you want to make that hire? If you look at the talent levels, and what the D was the year before, I believe you'll see what I see from the sofa." 😂🤣😂🤣

Give me a break, man.

How this argument is taken seriously is beyond me. "He can't win because he can't coach, with all those 5 stars." "The reason he wins is because of all those 5 stars, not that hard to coach 5 stars." Which is it?? Penny Hardaway is sh!tting 5 stars, how's that looking? Since John Calipari got to Memphis and beyond, he's signed as many 5 stars as anyone...how many National Titles he have to show for those 20 years? Oklahoma has signed as many 5 stars as anyone, how many National Championships they won? I could go on...

Pruitt's time here was a disaster, his defenses horrible. Sorry, though, those 3 years don't make me blind to all the other years he was an IMMENSE SUCCESS.

Saban is good at identifying creative genius and using it as long as the risk/reward ratio favors him, thus the well documented rehab hires. But sometimes geniuses morph into evil geniuses and sometimes the narrow skill sets employed as a coordinator do not expand when guys are given shots as HC. Football is littered with these failures, some just have a higher cost than the L's in the record book. Saban has done MORE with MORE to the max, and he has lasted because although he may not be an eagle scout, he does have some values needed to do what he has done. I think he wised up with Kiffin and famously cut him loose when the risk/reward for his genius did not support keeping him on. Pruitt cost us bigtime and I believe the Kiffin saga will not end well due to his character flaws. I know I would not sleep well if he was my direct boss. I hope that Ole Miss has some really good language in their new deal to protect themselves, otherwise he will try to leverage his position every year.

RIP 31k notifications. I fat fingered the button.

Anywhere in the top 20 does it as long as we have good evaluators/developers…… people want to skip steps and become Georgia and Alabama over night…. We need to become a solid football team with good depth that is consistently at/near the top of the second tier of teams in the SEC…. Then we will be ready to move up to being like Alabama and Georgia’s of the world…. It’s a process.
This. I don’t understand why people can’t understand this.

$4M at a school that will put my statue up for winning 8 games a year.
I'm parking my a$$ in Ames for as long as I'm able.

Never have to pay for corn or sliced bread ever again.:D

Well, he had funds, no sanctions, and had won a national championship so he is not something to compare to.

It is a complicated situation. He needed a change. Hopefully, it is win - win for us and him. This is all about fit.

Scoring touchdowns is a good fit though. ;)

Too bad it didn’t work out but I understand these situations are nuanced.

In other less bitchy back and forth news.

We're currently 20th on 247 in recruiting rankings and with a few of the possible guys left (no flips required) we could be as high as 17th. If we manage to flip a high rated guy (like Walter) we'd be able to jump as high as 11th and still have 22/23 commits.

It was always a money based arms race…. How do you think we were so good during the 90’s….. it sounds like we are getting our ducks in a row right now….. elite players are going to get paid…. We have to offer more than just money as well.

Well in today's world it seems misogynistic to offer women...

But the old $100K under the table is the new $1,000,000 in plain view.

Let’s see how things play out, scaling up by a factor of 10 doesn’t just happen.

VN moving to fast for my interest these days. Not going through 80 pages. Someone catch me up on the new NIL situation for UT that I’m seeing talked about in player threads

You may want to listen to the VolQuest odast that dropped yesterday. They interview the guy who is spearheading the effort.

I was just looking at TAMU's recruiting. They currently have 21 commits. They're second in team rankings, just behind Georgia. But they are the crystal ball favorites for 4 more 5* players and 3 more 4* players. I have no idea how many they can sign.

3 more 5* players are considering them, but they are not currently the crystal ball favorites. The class they are building off of a mediocre season is unreal. Some deep pockets have opened up at TAMU and they're buying a mega class.

Yep. The price I heard for Evan Stewart was at least $250k. That’s for a 5 star WR to go play in Jimbo’s offense that won’t throw him the ball. Now you’re seeing the NIL response in the arms race from Texas.

It’s really good news. I’m not in love with this class or anything, but we’re ahead of where I thought we would be in May. And this class should be good enough to keep our trajectory heading upward.

We do really need to land 4-5 impact transfers, though. Wish we were hearing more on that front.

And then hit the portal and you have a nice class coming in with a few more guys ready day 1. Not bad for yr 1 and having to deal with all the bs that the staff has had dealt to them. Plus these guys will actually get coached and thats a huge plus here that we havent had.

Ah, the passive aggressive condescension comment.

I understand. You probably couldn't think of a decent response.
I generally prefer not to respond to condescending name calling with someone who lacks knowledge but thinks he has the world figured out. But bless your heart. You’re really such a little stinker.

Also you can typically tell the smart coaches...they'll take less money to live in a less expensive state.

8 million a year in SoCal isn't going to be as much as it is Norman. I also think if Heupel & staff have another good season you'll see some big raises. I know he built in staff raises already for this first year to help retain guys (smart move by DW/Heup) and with a fun/exciting brand on field you'll get more sales.

He sold out one game in year 1, I can't remember the last time we saw Neyland sold out. Pruitt never did it, and it looks like Georgia in Butch's last season was it (3-1 at the time and had nearly beaten Florida in the swamp...Georgia wrecked us and wheels fell off though)

That’s phenomenal all things considered.
