Saw this on another board, so TIFWIW, but I find this fascinating. It’s like one of us morans was an athletic director:

From one of USC's top "insiders":

Ok here’s what actually happened:

We wanted Fickell. He wouldn’t talk until after the season. That didn’t work for us.

We went after Aranda. He flat out turned us down.

Then we offered Campbell. I heard it was 7.5M for 8 years. He wavered and didn’t decline but also didn’t accept.

Meanwhile, LSU had offered Petersen 12M for 8 years. He said No, he didn’t want to coach anymore. They then offered Riley 12M for 8 years. He didn’t want to go to LSU but he tried to get Oklahoma to match it. Oklahoma essentially said NO.

Well, it just so happened that Riley’s agent is also Donte’s agent. The agent tells Riley “I think I can get that deal for you from USC”. He reached out and somewhere around the 4th qtr of the BYU game Sosna started working on it. They make the deal. I don’t know the numbers but I think it has to be in the 12M neighborhood based on offer from LSU.

Contrary to the chess not checkers and Campbell and Aranda were backups crew, we literally lucked into the greatest hire we’ve made in a generation. They didn’t have discussions prior to Sat night. None.

Regardless. They should be commended for having the balls to pull the trigger on this hire and financial commitment. Optically it shows the whole CFB landscape we are serious about football and true gamers.

Side note: feelers and some dialogue was had with Brian Kelly’s people.

For a fan base that thinks Kentucky is trash, there sure is a bunch of posts wishing their coach would take another job so we don't have to face him going forward. I don't get that---if Kentucky is trash, why not keep Stoops there?
Because they aren't trash. They finished higher than us in the SEC East lol.

We can pretend Kentucky is irrelevant but that doesn't make it so.

His news. If half of it goes down…so will Frank’s servers. And last time he shared anything with me, Chaney was hired within a week when all of the insiders said that was dead. This is way more impactful.
Alvin Kamara found out he has another year of eligibility and is taking it?

Only thing I can think of magnitude is a commitment from Arch Manning. And no offense to him, but I'm not sure why HE would be the one to have that info even though he gets a lot of other info.

I’ll be honest…

Riley leaving OU for USC & now Kelly leaving ND for LSU has definitely made me worry about Heupel to OU.
Riley has no history with USC
Kelly has no history with LSU
Napier has no history with FU

Gee that last one made me lose my train of thought.. Poor gators and their Dooley hire

Someone posted earlier that griddle from vq said Cut was leaving Duke and becoming an adviser at UT. Arch would come here to be coached by Cut. Cut leaving Duke matches up so far. Hard to believe but would be Yuge.

Ole Miss is trying to hire him too. Imagining Cut having to be around Kiffin is making me laugh though.

I know people wanted Cut as an advisor now that he was done with Duke. Did not know there were rumors of actual movement on that.
Fingers crossed!
