Because TOP is the most important stat, according to them. Pennington said today that TOP in football is equal to shooting percentage in basketball. You might win a fluke game with a bad shooting percentage, but it’ll never work long term lol
TOP is the biggest old school coaching myth. It hardly matters at all. Pts/possession is infinitely more important as a metric. Deep dive studies have showed there's no statistically significant correlation between TOP and winning%.

(Game changing) TOP, at its best, is a mere after-effect of churning over 1st downs and stopping 3rd downs... and also lacking explosive offensive plays...but if you're forming offensive strategy around "winning" TOP then you're a complete idiot.

Might as well play the triple option and only snap with 1 second left if you want to "win" TOP...because of course all the top teams do things like that 😆😅🤣😂

Good post.

Seems simple to me. The guy took MSU...freakin MSU...to #1. Won titles playcalling for Urban. UF's last 2 coaches only had 1 10+ wins season each and he basically started with 3 straight (given any half normal 2020 season...when they won the East). I'll be 110% happy when the Gainesville morons run him out of town...which they'll do sooner than later.
Meh...just keep believing that 🦬💩...if I hear that stupid "he took MSU to #1" remark one more time..I am going to puke...he sucks.

Wife and I just starting Yellowstone tonight. I've never seen it

Well, you probably won’t see a whole lot until the morning. I’d recommend touring the hot springs first thing, then seeing Old Faithful in the afternoon.

Make sure you don’t keep food scraps around your campsite though. The bears there are not afraid to scavenge at night.

Times change.
You evolve or die. My first year coaching (85) we ran Erk Russell's 8-man front and the Split Veer on Offense. Game today doesn't even resemble what it did then. So what? It's still football. It's exciting to watch and it's much more challenging to try to stop wide open Offenses that attack across the entire field.

I hated to see it, but I love to watch this guy play football. Watch him torch the DB then step his way out of the tackle.

If he was going to ruin the game for us he might as well had a classic cut back to evade the push out of bounds

He’s so special.. would’ve loved to have seen him at UT for a couple more years

He's right, it is a fluke if the reason you have low TOP is because you're going 3 and out over and over and you somehow get a pick 6 or kick return to win. If you're scoring in 2 plays over and over, it wasn't a fluke, you just score fast.

Which was the case.. they failed to realize it tho. They raised hell about going fast after Hyatt went out of bounds.. that’s part of our system. We want to catch the defense off balance. They didn’t mention that once and we are almost through an entire season with this offense.

Unhinging points from TOP is a schematic advantage. Having a team that's primed to score fast creates opportunity.

I'd like to see them continue to play aggressive on D. I think you're fine with giving up a few yards on D as long as you have the potential to make big plays and force penalties and turnovers.

Ya, if we're going to be porous on D, just go super aggressive and get an extra turnover or sack.

That (to me) seems based off a very special period of UF football. That's comparing to the likes of Spurrier and Urban - 2 of the 10 greatest CFB coaches in modern times. UF should be solid - but no reason to believe they should be near the top every year...they're far from blueblood...small town in BFE...fickle fan base...less money than many other major programs.

That is just what spoiled UF fans believe that never followed the team till the 90s. They don't deserve squat and unless they run into another modern genius, they won't see it again. They're just so spoiled, they can't see reality for what it is.
How is not apparent to you by this time that Mehlen is exactly what I have always said he was? You're carrying water for him like he is just having a lil rough patch.

He is mediocre, he has some good qualities and some horrible ones...this is all he will ever be...meh.

4-5? Did Zook ever have that bad of a start? And 40-18 to USC, a bottom sec team? And losing to UK? That's just not good enough in year 4. I disagree that they should have expectations that low. 8-4 should be the lowest expectation at UF unless Bama is the crossover. It's too easy of a recruiting school to do worse than that.
You are 100% right.

Thank you

The only thing we need to fix about our offense is NOTHING

What we need are stops on defense.

When we get stops on defense we see 28-0 first quarters in our favor.
