How is it that Tennessee, who now have a hyper competent AD, being completely unprepared for a change everybody saw coming is more plausible than us just missing on a few guys? If you’re not a blue blood you’re not going to be landing multiple five stars every year, I think that’s pretty normal and doesn’t really require any other explanationI agree. People want to create any alternative theory because they don't like the source of the most obvious one right in front of them. Basilio is a self-absorbed boob, but I don't think he's wrong about the NIL issue hurting Tennessee in recruiting. Too much smoke around that fire.

We have one commitment and signing day is less than a month away. That doesn't strike you as odd? Especially with the timing of NIL becoming a reality and several of those targeted players suddenly taking a step back to reevaluate their recruitment? Guys we seemingly led for and had just finished up official visits to Knoxville. We haven't just missed on a few guys. We've missed on, literally, every one of our longtime targets, save for BJE, who was always coming here. How is it that Tennessee, who now have a hyper competent AD, being completely unprepared for a change everybody saw coming is more plausible than us just missing on a few guys? Where’s the evidence? If we’re just making up guesses, I guess that’s one. There’s other facts in each of the recruitments which actually may explain why Tennessee wasn’t picked tooI agree. AgreePeople have gotten spoiled by the last two classes into thinking we should expect a top 5 class every year. We could still get Chandler Jackson and end up with a pair of 4 star guards in the early period. That’s still better than average here. We aren’t going to have room to take a big class this year anyway.

Maybe it's just an absolute coincidence that we lost traction with these kids immediately after NIL came into affect. I just don't think Basilio is making up the idea of us being ill-prepared with regards to NIL based solely on the idea that, "Well it's Basilio...what does he possibly know?".
And again, I'm not in panic mode, especially with the portal being a better than adequate fallback option to filling roster holes. Chandler Jackson also seems like a fine addition, if we land him, as an additional option at guard.
What is getting lost in the discussion is my intent, which isn't to prove the accuracy of the report.Where’s the evidence? If we’re just making up guesses, I guess that’s one. There’s other facts in each of the recruitments which actually may explain why Tennessee wasn’t picked too

Again, I'm not even saying I believe it, necessarily. I'm just commenting on the idea that so many want to automatically dismiss is because they don't like the source.
Yeah, I’m not yet sold on BHH being one and done, considering he’s probably not even going to begin the season as a starter. The only player who exhausts his eligibility this year is Fulky and his scholarship doesn’t even count towards the 13 limit as a Covid super senior. The 2022 class was always going to be a small one compared to year's past. It is a very realistic possibility that Chandler is the only scholarship player on this roster currently that will be gone next year. So, even if the NIL stuff "caught us by surprise" (which I don't believe) I'm sure we'll be prepared for 2023 and beyond.
That 2023 class will be the important one. That class is very likely to be big.
I’m definitely inclined to dismiss whatever Tony B says. But very occasionally he does get something right. I take w a big grain of salt. Danny White doesn’t strike me as screwing up something like this when he’s acknowledged what a game changer this is for college athletics. What is getting lost in the discussion is my intent, which isn't to prove the accuracy of the report.

That is generally how I approach TB information, too. And, like you, I'd be shocked if we were caught with our pants down on the NIL deal, but isn't it seemingly odd that the only deals we are aware of is a pretty meager 5-figure sports card deal that Chandler's father apparently brokered and Fulk's deal with a regional fast-food chain with nothing but a localized cult following?I’m definitely inclined to dismiss whatever Tony B says. Meanwhile, in Tuscaloosa and Lexington...
That is another interesting angle that I've previously mentioned, as well. We were led to believe that we made real upgrades in recruiting with those guys. We saw an immediate return with Aidoo, though he kind of fell in our lap due to coaching change at Marquette (Gainey) and our previous recruitment of him, but who have they landed with their supposed connections? It's either poor preparedness for NIL or that we severely downgraded in the recruiting department with Gainey and Clark.
The vast majority of NIL deals nationwide aren’t going to be worth more than a few thousand dollars. There aren’t many businesses that can afford to sign dozens of football and basketball players to million dollar deals.TIFWIW, but VQ has been asked multiple times and denied there being any issues there each and every time.
I don’t know if I would use UK basketball and Bama football as measuring sticks in this area. What other NIL deals for basketball players do we know about? That is generally how I approach TB information, too. I'm not saying we have to match those efforts of Bama and UK, although if we want to compete with them for the same players, we may need to replicate their efforts. However, there is quite a span between a QB with deals totaling 7-figures and PGs driving Porsches while Fulkerson is slinging Big Pals and Frenchie Fries.I don’t know if I would use UK basketball and Bama football as measuring sticks in this area. The majority of “deals” are just getting players to post stuff on their social media. The vast majority of NIL deals nationwide aren’t going to be worth more than a few thousand dollars.
