I think the assault & battery that went with WEED was part of the problem. Those guys didn't get caught with weed, they broke into someone's room and stole.

It calls one's decision making into question. You pulled a kick-door to steal from drug dealers? That's not getting caught in your dorm smoking with some friends...

Then you're already on a short leash and you get caught again.

Strike 1 and 2 in one instance, strike 3 in another. You're putting the coach in a tough spot. If he lets one guy get away with whatever then he's tempting fate. He has to stand on his principles and stand by the team rules.

Maybe he doesn't even get kicked off in year 3+, but you're putting a fresh HC/staff on the hot spot with a tough situation. You have to have more awareness than that.

I happen to agree with legalization. I have no issues with most "illegal substances." That's beside the point. He's not some brave crusader for legality. He got caught robbing a fellow student(s) and then he shrugged off a second opportunity to walk a straight line. That's more than "just weed."

I’ve heard it was more than just weed…. He never learned his lesson after multiple opportunities.
Hey, Imma need you to just be monitoring your phone like a hawk until you get Friday walk-through nugs from your buddy. :)

Better resume than Dooley. Hiring Dooley is the big mistake that you cannot just chalk up to bad luck; he had no business even being on the shortlist for HC at UT.

At the time he shouldn’t have even been on the list for OC. That was the deathnell. That and not having a buyout if kiffin left. Killed us financially and USC probably doesn’t go after him if our AD had done the right thing and had a buyout in place

I’ll let him work and see what he can do, of course. I stayed in on Butch way too damn long when it was clear from year 1 that he was a bad coach.

Right now Heupel has a few positives to pull but his team is undisciplined, he started the wrong QB, didn’t challenge in the Pitt game among a few other questionable coaching decisions. Not saying he’s crap but I am saying it doesn’t look great early.
So you are completely bought in to kiffen when he inherited a good roster and only went 7-5, but knew from day one Butch wasn’t good when he had a couple eight win seasons? And he actually built those rosters. Heup is not perfect but it’s year one. Let’s judge him next year and his third year. He wasn’t left with much in key areas.

No nugs are coming unless he hears something in Missouri….. he rode the team bus to Missouri yesterday and got to his hotel at 1 this morning…. The team is flying up this afternoon. The only thing of significance that he told me is that he is almost certain Hooker is starting tomm.

Also something folks always gloss over in these situations...maybe the coach and staff care enough about the guys to say "ya know...this is some heavy **** you're in, maybe you need to think about getting away from here and these people you're involved with"

Also, the landscape in college football has changed so much. It gives us additional data points to measure competency. We don't necessarily need to wait until year 2 or 3 results on the field. If Hype is the guy you'll continue to see success in flipping this roster through the Portal and recruit guys that fit his system.

My early thought was this team may be the deepest in terms of depth, and the next two or three years may be worse than this one. However, they success they've had in the portal already, and the relationships they're building give me hope that the roster reconstruction may go at an expedited pace. I'm still willing to wait until year 4 before casting final judgement on CJH, but I for one am impressed with what they've been able to accomplish in a very short period of time.

As an aside, if Butch would've had the portal, do those 8 wins teams turn into 10 win teams, and he still walking the sideline in Neyland?

Bearded Iris has the best beer. Finding them more frequently down here - and that’s a good thing. Always enjoy trips back home to the midstate so I can grab some of the varieties we don’t get around ATL. I’ll look for that one next time I’m up there.

Yup, one of my favorites breweries. They just opened a 2nd taproom about 10 minutes from me this summer and I’ve been a few times. If I don’t go grab a 4 pack from the taproom there is a liquor store near me that has a really good craft beer selection and they let me mix and match. They always have the newest bearded Iris releases plus a lot of other good breweries. That’s where I got this one.

If Bailey chooses the right school, I think he will be fine.

The other two, I'm not so sure.

Beckwith has been learning RB, if transfers and goes elsewhere, and moves back to WR or something, then he may have to relearn that position again, so that may take another year of eligibility off. (I don't think Beck will be a RB, I think wherever he transfers to, they will move him)

Luckily for Whitehead he has played both positions his whole life, so he will also have an easier time. Poor Beckwith man.

Beckwith. Seems he already flamed out. He’ll be a journeyman on the Big 12 circuit and never a key contributor. Or quit the game altogether. If you can’t find the field on this team, you just don’t care about football. And that’s fine.

There’s literally no factual evidence that support it being smarter or easier to go under center in short yardage.
Of course there is.. In addition to pure common sense which doesn't require any statistics or evidence.

The QB Sneak is the most underutilized play in football - Sports Info Solutions Research & Analysis

I don't know why on downs 2-3, anyone runs anything else with less than a yard to go. 88% with no risk. At first the ball gets spotted at the same spot it was at.

That's because you don't know what you're looking at. Dude can scheme up a team bigly. Play design and playcalling have been on point. I'm excited about what this team would look like with a full roster of scholarship players and a couple years of development with these dudes. I think he'll turn out to be a very good (and maybe potentially great) head coach. Just be patient and understand what you're seeing and put it into proper context.

Who would have thought that Crouch would be the most impressive transfer we lost. I don't know if he'd be AS productive had he stayed here, but he is a beast LB in the Big 10.

One of the dumbest things I remember Butch doing was in a Florida game when Worley got hurt. Put Dobbs, who had never taken snaps under center, under center in our end zone and asked him to handoff to a freshman Jalen Hurd. Result was a fumble that was recovered for either a TD or a safety.

I may have messed up the details because it was years ago, but it was something like that.
I think that was vs Alabama

So you're saying none of the GAs take data on individual plays? I would think this is extremely easy to prove, it would just take time to collect the data.
I think the point is that the data shows you are just as likely to have success in an inches play with a sneak as you are in shotgun.

You could argue this is a larger culture problem, but I’d love to know how many HC’s let a player get kicked off the team for WEED. In the year 2021. It’s asinine.
I mean, he had 2 tries and botched both and it wasn’t just “Weed” encounters it was two police encounters.

What is the data bc the only data I have been able to find stated that sneaks was 19% more successful than shotgun and 13% more successful than under the center runs…. That info may not be accurate so I was curious if anyone had access to what the actual data shows.

Plus he was not doing the things the team wanted him to do football related either…. I really don’t think he is going to be successful but maybe this got his attention and he will straighten himself out.

On this note he is doing better than all of our LBs….

Everyone outside of Jeremy Banks sucks. I just looked up all of their stats and they are awful.

Juwan Mitchell only has 1 solo tackle…. 1….
