Pitt--- we can see how important and effective having a veteran QB that is above average can be in terms of managing and finishing a game in the same system for years.

MOVING FORWARD---

I don't know the extent of Milton's injury, but clearly after two games, this is the realistic scenario that needs to take place---- Hooker to my knowledge has one year of eligibility... Milton has 3yrs of eligibility....

Start Hooker the remainder of the year with HB as backup... Milton needs to take this season and just practice working on controlling his arm and how to read coverages...
Next season Hooker is gone and Milton now hopefully has the tools and control to be the QB he is supposed to be, with HB having that year too to develop... He now has two years to play...

Our offense is bad and the stats bear it out. I know 34 points seems like a good result, and it was yesterday, but if we don’t improve and become more efficient, a good team will make us pay for it.

The writing is on the wall.

You are consistent. Tired of the negativity. Just some terrible takes.

It’s Huepel’s offense. I had been told there are no real midrange throws in his offense and after two games, that’s spot on. It’s based on numbers and matchups. You get WR’s one on one.

Milton is just doing what’s he taught to read. If we just hit 1-2 yesterday, it’s probably a different game.

The offense has worked, but it’s also probably why Heupal’s teams can score 65 or 3. It’s boom or bust.
He needs to fix that too. This isnt the AAC and you arent going to make a very good living off doing that. Like Callaway showed yesterday, sometimes you just gotta get your athletes out in space on the permitter. Or like Bama did with Davontae throw over the middle and let them run.

I also want to hear what folks are saying about our secondary which I don't think we are talking about.... pretty pathetic for a couple of quarters... My old ass probably could have caught 3-4 passes for positive yards... they sliced up our secondary... and they are not good. What is going to happen against some good SEC offenses?

Seats are empty because UT is having trouble selling tix even with creative packaging and bargain bin prices. A lot of season tix holders can't even give them away. My parents had six to give away outside Neyland and no one wanted them. My dad left them outside the stadium with a note. No one used them.

Fan and donor apathy has been growing for a while. COVID has cloaked it. If you're looking for a silver lining, families who want to take their kids to a game can benefit from cheap or free tix.

In regard to my criticisms - I am not and will not be "out" on Heup until he proves to be Dools/Botch/Cornbread cringeworthy. I hope that never happens and he becomes a Vol legend. He does many things very well.

That said, he has done the one thing that the others messed up - select the wrong starting QB. He even re-recruited the guy who passed on him and had lost his job at Michigan. That's like going after the gal you lusted over in high school who has lost her shine after she rejected you and chased another guy, married him, and got divorced. It's probably not going to work out well the second time around unless she makes major changes and you accept the flaws. You are different people than you were in high school. Unfortunately, Heup apparently was not attracted to either one of the three "girls next door" in his own locker room. So, here we are. Again.

That game changes 180 degrees if Milton hits a few of those passes in the first quarter. It almost changed if they run the right play on 4th and a foot. Forget the screwing by the ACC officials - our SEC officials do that to us nearly every game. Despite all that we were one competent QB playing the entire game and maybe one play from winning with so many missing players. To win here, Heup needs to reassess his personal wants and go with the team's needs.

JMO.

I just don’t understand how we can say this. It’s just assumed that another QB is better, which doesn’t make sense to me. Don’t want to start the HB debate again, so I will leave it alone. Just doesn’t seem logical after 1.5 games for a player.

Pass rush. That’s simple.

Might as well go ahead and brace yourself, it’s going to get ugly when conference play starts.

I’ve never seen a team launch it down downfield as much as we have in the first two games.

These are very low-probability connections, I don’t get it. It feels like Heupel gives Milton the green light to push it and he has probably been abusing it. Or maybe there aren’t outlet throws designed. I don’t know enough about football to tell. I just see a very odd game plan with Milton.

Not sure what’s up.
SMH..

3-0 on turnovers, unbelievable penalties delta.
Tough to win with these stacked against you, yet we were in it to the end missing our starting QB, RB, WR, C, LB and numerous others. and only 71 scollies to begin with.
I am disappointed but proud of the effort. D was swarming at times, couple of goal-line stands. And it was a fun game to watch, much better than that lethargy we have witnessed for years.
Literally was about to post the same verbatim after a sleep on it.
We just aren’t there yet depth wise, ans it’s going to take 2 more solid recruiting cycles.
Love the effort I saw yesterday for 60 minutes. A Pruitt team would have laid down in the 3rd.
It’s been mentioned, but a couple bad timeouts and the 4th ans 1 call was all I really noticed as horribly bad coaching mistakes.
Gotta find consistency at QB moving forward!! Shore up the oline, and LB pass coverage over the middle. Do all that and we will make a bowl which would be a great thing this year!

Alabama needs to go ahead and play Georgia right now and get that national championship game out of the way.

The rest of the league is very competitive right now and is actually entertaining.

I just hope we get two solid recruiting cycles. Still in doom mode. Need to go 6-6 if we want a solid class. Maybe if Heupel keeps taking the portal route, we may have a chance

Right, why practice slants/posts if you're not going to throw them in a game

It's funny to me how it's a forgone conclusion that any team not named UT will improve during the year, but despite the fact that our offense is clearly better than last year, in the first year of a new staff and new system, some can't enjoy the progress so far and expect more in the future.

It's often the same people who have "lost confidence in Heupel" because he hasn't yet used the QB that you are convinced (with zero evidence) would win the Heisman...AFTER 2 GAMES.

It's a rebuild. It's gonna take more than 2 games. It may take more than 2 years. You pine for guys like Mark Stoops, but completely ignore that fact it took him years to get to a bowl game. He wouldn't be doing any better than Heupel, and of course you'd lose confidence in him too.

You complain that Neyland isn't full, but are the same people saying you'll never go back.

It's no wonder coaches don't want to stay here. Opposing fans need not troll, we troll ourselves better than they ever could.

You justify it with BVS, but Coach Majors was right, we truly are the Legion of the Miserable. Pathetic.

As bad as Miltons overthrows are, the worst one was Hooker yesterday.

Y’all remember that throw to the sideline!? Holy hell lol
Somebody needs to tell Milton we're scrimmaging all week and call nothing but bombs. I seriously don't get it. Is he afraid of a turnover? Gotta just let your man have a shot.

Try not to post or read too much in-season. The 2nd guessers and 20-20 hindsight folks are out in force. I know the view from the Cheap Seats is always clearer. From an old Coaches' perspective, I see a Defense that can line up, plays with great intensity. They also make mistakes that are correctable the more game reps they have. The Offense has the potential to explode at any time with improved QB play. AGAIN, more game reps. Special Teams have been outstanding. If you are ready to give up on this Staff and this Team after 1 loss I feel sorry for you.
