Based on what?Watch the 2nd quarter of the BGSU game. Pitt is content to run a whole game like that, playing keepaway from our offense and controlling the game.
First post since April 30th.
So I’ll add my $0.02.
First, as one should expect, there are all sorts of rationalizations about our offensive performance last night. It’s what we always do when our team seemingly underwhelms. It’s our way of dealing with our decent back to earth.
On the final scoreboard show, Eric Ainge and Troy Fleming were asked to grade the three phases of our game, offense, defense, and special teams. Both gave the defense and special teams a B. Eric gave the offense a C and Troy gave the offense a D. You could tell both were trying to be positive.
While our running game got some credit, it wasn’t lost on many that we were running against a defense that ranked dead last in the nation for rushing defense last year. Still Pat Ryan named Small and Evans as co-players of the game.
Michigan fans on reddit were telling us “I told you so”, and not in a mean way.
It’s a win.
Historically, Heupel’s offenses have run up the score on cupcakes and struggled against better teams but because it feasted on also-rans it would finish the year with a high ranking. In a brief glance at the pick the score contest thread, 96% of our fans apparently were expecting a typical Heupel offense. That, I think, explains both the disappointment in some and the rationalizations in others.
If Harrison Bailey wants to start he may need to come out as Transgender. jmo.
I'll go back to the shadows now. #GBO
He stood stock still in the pocket several times, more like a statue than any QB I've ever watched. If he did the things the other guy did he would have turnovers on the stat sheet. Milton didn't throw right at linebackers. Milton moved around in the pocket. Yes he missed some throws but he's 10x better than the other guy
50-50 what though? I hate that term, it seems to imply the other 50% goes to the defender...except those rarely end up INTs.That is less than a 50-50 ball vs every other team on our schedule that isn't Tenn Tech.
Again, he never slid once, so he clearly wasn't timid. I thought he was nowhere near timid enough. He was running into people way too much. He's an athlete, of course he's going to try to juke when he thinks he can. That's probably worked for most of his life. Unless it's third down or goal line, he needs to be sliding. He took way, way too much contact.By the fact that when there was any type of contact/chance of contact he was on his way down, the only runs that he ran aggressively were the couple near the goal line, the rest were as timid as a bunny rabbit
VQ guys scoffed at the idea of pulling him, but you gotta pull him next week if it starts going the same way.My biggest concern right now, is that our staff went with Milton because of the tools, not necessarily because he is the best QB.
If that is the case, and he struggles next week, I hope that Heup will pull him and give HB a shot.
Run game would be good with Hooker, but he is not going to improve the passing game. We need someone who can throw the ball down the field. HB did that in the spring game. I know that doesn't mean much, but he showed pin point accuracy on those deep balls. Milton didn't do that last night.VQ guys scoffed at the idea of pulling him, but you gotta pull him next week if it starts going the same way.
Give Hooker a shot. Run game will be more effective with him and I'm confident he can manage the passing game well enough to move the ball.
Basilio was correct regarding WRReading through everyone's thoughts and points---
I think as crazy as it sounds, Hooker may be our best option overall from experience and elusiveness going into next week unless Milton takes some huge steps forward this week watching tape and understanding the pocket and going over reads...
Sorry, but NOT impressed with our WR's.... Calloway and Key need to return and others need to F'n step up...

If that's what HB can do, then it's him I'd like to see
To me it seems like Milton was just trying to do way too much.My biggest concern right now, is that our staff went with Milton because of the tools, not necessarily because he is the best QB.

Wouldn't HH be next up? Especially seeing him in relief last night, it seems he's QB2, at the moment at least. My biggest concern right now, is that our staff went with Milton because of the tools, not necessarily because he is the best QB.
