We ran it 64 times and had 470 yards of offense. I’m sure that won’t be our game plan every week. Do you all think our route tree consists of 2 out patterns and 2 go routes? We treated it like a scrimmage. They came out focused and put up 2 quick tds. Got lazy and had to refocus. 300 plus yards in the second half. Yes it’s BG but I imagine they will be ready to go vs Pitt. Lots of guys got some good pt tonight. Good film to look through

Posts like this is what’s gonna make me homer out and get heartbroken by next week. Gosh darn you @jordan4vols. Gosh darn you all to heck.

Okay, let's talk positives:

What is the best thing you saw last night???

For me, it was Jerome Carvin. That dude was an animal and played hard and mean and through the echo of the whistle. I saw him pile at least 3 guys at the whistle and I LOVED IT.
Theo Jackson! Man was diagnosing quickly and flying around.

The mood & energy in here is as if we lost. We won by 32 points, I know some are upset we didn’t hit 40,50 points but in previous seasons this game probably would’ve been a lot closer then needed to be. Heup called a very basic offensive game and didn’t show his hand much. This team is a working progress, and with 9 days til Pitt, Milton and the rest of the team will improve and be better. Heup & Golesh will unleash more of the playbook as they understand how important that game will be to win

Anyone chasing their win/loss expectations?

I was at 7-8 wins I'm at 6-7 after last night.
No, but I didn't begin that high either. 6.5 wins looked good before, still ok now. Pitt game will tell us a lot more.

But even if we're shaky vs Pitt - again this is Y1. A season for making progress and development...implementing all new schemes on both sides. When does Y1 in a scheme ever go smoothly? So we may not be a 7-5 team next week, but that's not all that matters. We just need to develop into a 7-5/6-6 team by end of the season.

You are right, but he did throw horrible passes to wide open guys, and Hyatt did drop those throws right in the breadbasket..

That is a bad combination. When those things don't happen, this offense will look unstoppable..but when they do, it will leave everyone feeling frustrated like today.
His accuracy isn't great and likely never will be; I think what you saw at Michigan is what you'll get here. However, speaking about just last night's game, if just 2 plays went differently the narrative right now would be really different.

If Joe took a little juice off one of the deep balls, and if Hyatt caught his second drop, the final score is 49-6 and everybody would be feeling much better.

Heupel will be here for minimum 5 years. None of these QBs are truly his guys. I expect Milton to improve and overall QB play to improve every year. He’s proven he knows QBs this year is just patchwork. I wouldn’t be shocked to see us get another transfer in the off-season.
Ohio state will likely have a highly talented transfer Quarterback available going into next offseason. Wether that be 5 star Kyle McCord or Ewers who’s the #1 player in the 2021 class… my bet is McCord likely is out the door. Talking about talent. That kid has some talent and can see the field really well. We’ll have some options

Also Tyler Baron is a bright spot. Nice to see a D-lineman actually get his hands up to deflect a pass and get some QB pressure with a bull rush. Now hopefully he can do it against some SEC O-linemen
Loved the hands up all night long! Simmons was doing that too. Feels like forever ago since we batted and tipped some passes.

I never understood why people were so high on Milton. Everyone loved the arm strength and forgot about accuracy and completion percentage. Everyone said he was a dual threat.

I’ve never seen someone with his physical attributes play so timid. It’s not possible to have 8+ seconds behind the line of scrimmage and still not find an open receiver against a team like bowling green. I would rather have a slow, small, accurate gun slinger with good decision making capabilities.

Milton is likely what Michigan fans warned us about. All the potential for greatness but comes up startlingly underwhelming.

That being said, I trust Hypel and his ability to create great QBs. Hopefully Milton gets better and better because that kind of QB play won’t work against SEC opponents.

We will see.
I said during practice that I thought everybody, including smart coaches, gets blinded by all that physical talent..I understand why, if the guy could get it together we would be pretty much unstoppable...but I think it is fair to say it is doubtful that he ever consistently does..

Not saying he can't, but he pretty much confirmed what I have believed about him all along. It is impossible for me to think he will until he actually does it.

Milton is his guy..he has always chased that dude.

I wonder if the receivers will work with only Joe over the next week? He throws the ball hard, we can't see any more drops like Hyatt's last night. They need to get used to it. If the other QBs throw softer, it's going to mess with the WR's timing and so forth.

Been a fan of his from the moment he stepped on the field for us. He plays mean. I think the OL can have success run blocking. Coupled with the two RBs we should be able to run the ball on 50-75% of our opponents.

I thought Theo Jackson showed up on defense.

If he did the things the other guy did he would have turnovers on the stat sheet. Milton didn't throw right at linebackers. Milton moved around in the pocket. Yes he missed some throws but he's 10x better than the other guy
Milton did have a turnover on the stat sheet...just not multiple ones, but the one he did have was a bad fumble.

We need him to be. Did not like what I saw from the receivers last night other than Tillman.

Thought this was pretty telling last night…

“We as a passing game - QBs and WRs - didn’t play the way we need to moving forward. We expect to have Jimmy Calloway back soon.”
-Heupel

Unsolicited remark makes me think Calloway may be a key ingredient. Is he injured?

Easily the use of the tight ends. I didn’t know you could throw to them
