Bryson Eason needs to be playing more, that dude BLEW UP a couple plays, I feel like our primary DE rotation should be Baron, Young (when we get his eligibility fixed), Tremblay, and Eason
Edit: I forgot Roman Harrison, dang we're honestly pretty deep at End thinking about it
Didn’t notice. Did he play strong side DE?

Went up to 8+.
You serious? What'd you see that made you think we're better than you thought? I mean I was impressed at times but Joe has to hit those deep misses and we won't be able to run like that against SEC opponents I don't think, I could be wrong, but I don't think I am

This team will go as Milton goes. He has to process the game quicker for one thing. Imo, if he can hit more of those deep balls and connect with some passes across the middle, there is zero reason we can't go 7-5 or even better. If he plays like last night, we will struggle to win 6 imo. Wide receivers have to help him out more too, silly drops like last night will kill us.

As everyone has already said, Pitt game is massive. Im optimistic still though because I think the pieces are all there for a pretty good year.

Eason did that against Bowling Greens 2nd/3rd team

First post since April 30th.

So I’ll add my $0.02.

First, as one should expect, there are all sorts of rationalizations about our offensive performance last night. It’s what we always do when our team seemingly underwhelms. It’s our way of dealing with our decent back to earth.

On the final scoreboard show, Eric Ainge and Troy Fleming were asked to grade the three phases of our game, offense, defense, and special teams. Both gave the defense and special teams a B. Eric gave the offense a C and Troy gave the offense a D. You could tell both were trying to be positive.

While our running game got some credit, it wasn’t lost on many that we were running against a defense that ranked dead last in the nation for rushing defense last year. Still Pat Ryan named Small and Evans as co-players of the game.

Michigan fans on reddit were telling us “I told you so”, and not in a mean way.

It’s a win.

Historically, Heupel’s offenses have run up the score on cupcakes and struggled against better teams but because it feasted on also-rans it would finish the year with a high ranking. In a brief glance at the pick the score contest thread, 96% of our fans apparently were expecting a typical Heupel offense. That, I think, explains both the disappointment in some and the rationalizations in others.

If Harrison Bailey wants to start he may need to come out as Transgender. jmo.

I'll go back to the shadows now. #GBO

I’m serious! I hope it really bothers you that I’m not overreacting! As a fan, I lived through some really bad football in the late 70’s when I had a young inkling of what was going on in the field. I know what BAD looks like. We’re despondent because we didn’t witness 60+ style points first game new QB new system. Previous regimes had trouble running against the UTC’s and UMass’s of the world. Perspective on FX this fall.

Missed you and the stats sir! Glad you are still around.

I thought it was a bit before they put in the 2nd stringers but either way I think out D-Line overall has decent depth, BG was just getting the ball out super quickly or there would have been 4-5 sacks in the game rather than the 1 or 2 we had. Eason impressed me on that play, but could've easily been after BG made the change, idk and couldn't find a clip of it

Bailey can still have an impact at UT. With how we have seen QB play go in the past couple of years, there is a good chance he will get snaps this year.

I like how Heupel is confident in Milton and is going to continue letting him play and improve. The tools are there for Milton. We will just need to see if a new coach and offense will help him improve through the first part of the season.

QB roulette will leave us with 3 QBs that have no confidence.
Totally agree. Bailey will help us at some point.

One plus side I haven't seen mentioned is the team gets extra time to prepare/rest before the PITT game. Coaches will definitely be spending some time in film room correcting mistakes, and there will probably be a few extra wrinkles thrown at PITT that we didn't see in this game.

Biggest problem I see is no alphas….

Maybe Carvin on OL, but it’s hard to tell.
Maybe Banks on Defense.

If some strong Alphas like Jennings don’t emerge then this team will have an inferiority complex against most teams on our schedule

Major thing I was pleased to see was people actually seemed to know where they were supposed to line up. After 3 years of watching guys wander around and looking at the sideline or each other, it was nice to see. On Milton, I think he had too much time to look around. Better team forces him to make a quicker decision and probably a better result. Good to get a win. Should get better. Hard to argue with 300 rushing yards. Take that all day long.

I have concerns about Milton,
But… as to how the REST of the team played, and the coaching plan and adjustments…

I feel a lot better than I did after watching the ‘16 opener with a squeaker win against lowly App State.

I feel a lot better than I did after watching the ‘19 opener with a bewildering loss to lowly Georgia State.
