'22 TN DT Walter Nolen (Ole Miss)

i don't think UT can't compete, but long-term winning just creates different opportunities. as it relates to nolan, NIL just isnt our strongest argument against the teams we're fighting for nolan. garner making him the best damn DL he can be and getting him REAL MONEY in the league is.
You could also argue he could come to UT and almost immediately be the man if he lives up to billing where he's just another 5* at UGA or Bama. Seems like you'd make more starting and playing than being behind previously recruited 5* players.

"we have fewer good players than they do" is not the recruiting pitch you think it is.

Let me explain to you, coming ro UT will not garner any better benefits than going to Bama or UGA. Actually going g to either of those 2 will get him more. Those 2 win on an elite level right now and playing there has a little more clout at the current moment. None of these kids are worry about taxes and all that like a normal citizen like I or you.
I think as far as the NIL is concerned it would come down to exposure.

I'd be surprised if Lowe at Powell is there for another couple of years. He's "allegedly" as dirty as they come and I know that every coach in the area has their eyes on him. Several of their starters "allegedly" live in other parts on knox. He's been in trouble before and will again. However, if WN ends up at UT, I'll let it slide for this year. He's still a d bag though who wears a visor backwards and upside down. 😂🤣
Happens everywhere. My buddy from middle school was way out of zone, but ended up at Karns after getting recruited. Said they put down an assistant coach's address. Too easy.

It means you have 2 years of NIL opportunity you may not get somewhere else.

i really can't overstate the chasm between how fans think NIL works and what it will do vs. what is actually happening in recruiting. Its almost completely white noise at this point.

and again, it is not our strongest pitch for nolan.

Dude, I am in Powell and the sky is darkening as we speak..
Go to the Weigel’s across the street from Powell HS. Take some beers out from the cooler and don’t pay a dime. If the gas station clerk tries to give you any sh1t just tell him that Pepperjax said it is ok to grab some brews.

Heck no!! We have upgraded to Chicken and Biscuits from Bojangles next to the stadium. How do you think we can attract the big boys?
Whatever it is, just fill it with plenty of cash please. I'm talkin cash biscuits...buns filled with thousand dolla dolla bills yall.

I imagine it's not as simple for recruiting because you can't offer a recruit shiz.

I do think maybe in a year or two schools will be able to say - look here are the deals our players have gotten and how much we estimate you could make here. Something like that. And of course every school will inflate numbers or base estimates off the very best deals players have gotten.

Saban is already doing it, casually mentioning his young QB is approaching a million dollars or whatever. But the general consensus among recruits went from "EVERYONE GETS PAID" when it was first announced to "don't worry about NIL, focus on the season, real money comes later" in about 3 weeks, probably in part because they got the same pitch from every coach in their contact list. like you said, NIL pitches will become relevant again when coaches can point to a handful of their guys that did six or seven figures on endorsements.
