While that is a deep fear looking at TX track record.....I just don't see it. The FL, GA, AL schools are just too strong and will not let that happen. TX may have some $$$, but let's be serious, their success in sports is much less than the SEC.

TX has always been the big bully in the conference....in the SEC, they are just a regular Joe.

I still don't even really want Missouri and A&M in the SEC, I certainly don't want Oklahoma or Texas either. They were the very nature of the BIG 12, and it is sad seeing the tradition just ruined.

I doubt the big 12 will go away, it's more important than ever to be a part of the power 5, which is why I see UCF, USF, Cincy, Memphis, BYU, Boise State, and any other large group of 5 team to be joining a Power 5 conference. Honestly those 6 teams added to the BIG 12 certainly make some things interesting, as it would add some big markets like Ohio, Tennessee, and Florida to it, and two strong teams in BYU and Boise State as well.

I must be one of the only people not happy about this. I still don't like having A&M or Missouri in the conference and now they go and let TX & OU in.

SEC should probably change their name while they are at as it no longer represents what the Conference looks like.

I think a good first step to defending against an SEC Office that has relegated its member institutions to franchises would be to form an external organization of like-minded football programs to provide an independent communications channel for football concerns.

Regular meetings. Public. Create a vision for what football should be.

Fund eye exams for referees.

Fulfill all obligations to the SEC, of course.

But any move by the SEC Office to effectively outlaw the org would be an important tripwire.

And with said org already in place, you now have a framework that could be expanded into something more, if lines are crossed.

If we feel like we don’t have any choice but to accept whatever comes out of the SEC Office, we have allowed ourselves to fall into a bad place. We should work to fix that.

After a couple of years of having their asses handed to them, Texas will start causing problems and start saying a Texas touchdown should be worth 12 points or some such shizz. They will try to be the big bully in the SEC.

This might not have passed through College Station but if you think this move was unknown in Tuscaloosa, Athens, Knoxville, Baton Rouge, etc, you're dreaming.

I'm not saying it was met with cheers but I'd bet the spreadsheet projections of $$$$ were discussed and dissected by bean counters across the SEC.

The Aggies are an odd bunch. Their go-to insult for horns is to call them 'sips,' short for tea sippers. Apparently, back in the day, Aggies couldn't handle that Texas had a tea house on campus, hence what they must consider to be a clever insult. Not sure that drinking tea is the most embarassing thing one could do, but the Aggie perspective is always confounding.

The ONLY good news as far as I can see in the foreseeable future, is that Sankey is on your side, and he seems to be the al capone of what's left of college ball. He has an opportunity for an enormous power grab here, and if you are listening to his interviews, he is acting the part very well. Sankey Is "The Commish" for the immediate future. That could work well for UT.

Yeah…cuz they could get away with it. They were always bigger than their conference. Doesn’t play in the SEC. Our brand’s bigger.

Well North Carolina and Virginia Tech would be the natural fits if they ever got to that. However that is less than 5% chance of ever being a situation.

The only good thing I see is that Texas boosters can out bid Bama boosters for players. Makes sense now why Nick made the statement about the NIL earlier in the week.

I have no idea who knew about this move. If members are keeping conference matters secret from others that isn’t a good sign.

What would be kept secret from us?

But my point isn’t really about the desirability of this particular move, more about maintaining or developing the necessary structures to give us options in the event the mandates from the SEC Office are no longer palatable.

I understand the money is seductive. I would prefer we not allow it to become an addiction.

I think you made the salient point, and then missed it. Texas has $$$$, and THAT is the actual field of play.
Anyone who thinks these things will be decided on grass is on grass.

In the SEC offices, Texas won't be just a regular Joe--they'll be a regular Joseph Kennedy.

Texans carry a lot of Tennessee DNA, from back when blood feuds here spanned generations. There's a reason it's a Texas governor who is standing up against the entire federal government. They are strong-willed and independent. And now, they have money.

If you want to know how hillbillies with money act, think "Granny" instead of Jed Clampett, and teams of lawyers instead of shotguns.

I expect east and west although I would prefer your model only for Tennessee as east west alignment will be the death nail for us. We will never recover in a division with adding Alabama and Auburn to what we already have.

The fact that the SEC hid this from aTm tells me that there is something rotten here. Hope the Texas legislature does step in and calls for an investigation.

You guys see what's around this bend like me? The big will pillage some acc, and the acc will split north and south. Clemson is coming arn't they?

You only get an opportunity like this once in several generations. This is a Rockefeller move. I already know the acc is in talks. They have to see it.
