Military doesn't do it for the money, but they and their families know full well the sacrifices that are made for country that go unrecognized by most. Trust me, they're underpaid for what they do.
Yup, a lot of teachers do extra curriculum stuff for little to no pay. My man here teaches at a private school, he handles basically every sport imaginable for hardly any extra pay.If you're such an expert, YOU do it and show us all how we are doing it wrong. I coach football, work all summer. Take off 4th of July week. Also teach Trig and Calculus. The best coaches I ever hired or worked with were also great classroom teachers. You are, however, entitled to your opinion.

Not really. The thought of teaching sounds like a very noble profession and it does take a special person. It seems like we get more teachers that want summers off or to coach. They don’t go into it to help prepare kids to excel in life.
Never understood the teachers need better pay rant. They get fall break, winter break, spring break and summer break. On top of that they get personal time off during the year. They work less hours in a year than most working people and most teachers don’t do it because it means something to them to help a child prepare for life. I can only remember a few teachers that really had a talent for teaching.
Also, if they aren’t smart enough to know the average teachers salary before they get their degree are they really that smart?

Sounds like she was a good one. I had several teachers that I still talk about 30 years later. They weren’t my friend but did an excellent job teaching and keeping us on point but I had others that threw out a pitiful assignment and read the newspaper while we did it. My kids come home talking about their teachers wasting the day. They don’t necessarily want to work hard at school but they talk about it because they are bored. It’s sad to know they aren’t being challenged.Yup, a lot of teachers do extra curriculum stuff for little to no pay. My mom would have to be at school by 6-7 for bus duty every day and then stayed til 6-7 most nights working on extra daily plans and such. She won a well-deserved TN teacher of the year award just before retiring...maybe she wasn't the average teacher idk, but I do know there are a lot like her...it's not easy at all (add in the parents, ugh) and they get compensated like got dang babysitters.
do you know this based off personal experience or just making assumption based on stereotypes? Not really. Every last ounce of this is ********.
I’ve been teaching ten years now and still am up grading or lesson planning M-TH until midnight after my wife goes to bed. I coach two sports for less than $3000 combined. I go in at 630 and don’t leave until 630. My brother and two best friends work in banking and laugh at the amount of work I do and for how little I’m paid.
Nothing is more insulting than parents and tax payers like you. Go sub, please. We need them.
I feel like they are paid fairly for the number of days they work.
our school's teachers aides that help out. once or twice a week. i feel for her she has a class size double what shes comfotable with. and asinine standards in a one size fits all curriculum.my kids schools have teachers aids that grade papers. also had many, many days their teacher didn’t even bother to sign on for class when they were on virtual.
Not impressed by all teachers where I work, of course. You make a bunch of generalizations, lump most teachers in with a few bad apples, I am going to defend the profession. However, I agree that teachers in UNION states tend to whine more about money, but that comes with the territory. Unfortunately there are also some in the coaching end that just occupy a teaching slot, but in my experience, lazy teachers tend to make lazy coaches. Best Science teacher, English teacher, and History teacher I ever saw were also outstanding coaches.Sounds like I struck a nerve. I never implied all teachers are included in with this group but I would find it hard to believe that you are impressed with all the teachers in your school. People are people no matter where they work and a portion is just playing the game to collect a paycheck. I’m just saying I don’t have a reverence for someone because they teach and feel like they need more money because of it. I’ve heard that for years by teachers and politicians and don’t buy into it. People know what a teachers salary is before they start the job. It’s like people going on strike for $15.00 an hour at McDonalds. If a person isn’t satisfied, find a different line of work.
Pssh I wish. I had 120 students per semester last year. I wish I got $5 an hour for each kidYup, a lot of teachers do extra curriculum stuff for little to no pay. My man here teaches at a private school, he handles basically every sport imaginable for hardly any extra pay.

Again, I’m not talking about all teachers. Their are some that are great and I wish they made what they are worth but I just don’t agree with a blanket pay raise…really for anybody.Come teach three classes of 35+ kids, grade everything with meaningful feedback, and then have to do back flips through burning hoops to explain why each kid got a grade their parents didn’t want all while an administrator sides with the parent because they don’t want to make things harder on themselves.
Then hit reset in January and get a whole new set of students and parents.

My favorite teacher ever was one of the football coaches. You didn’t goof off in his class but you learned and he was great. Not impressed by all teachers where I work, of course. Have you mentioned your continuing education?Come teach three classes of 35+ kids, grade everything with meaningful feedback, and then have to do back flips through burning hoops to explain why each kid got a grade their parents didn’t want all while an administrator sides with the parent because they don’t want to make things harder on themselves.

I have a Master's in edumacation but that's because my BS was in Biology. Tennessee is weird now in that you need to take teaching class to become a teacherI think bachelor degree holding teachers are paid fairly here in Florida. However, masters and doctorates don't seem worthwhile unless you wish to be a principal. Jmo
Our close friends teach in elementary so experience may differ in middle and high school.
You are probably right but it was kind of like that when I went to school also. One has already graduated and the other is almost there.Based on your last five or six posts, you are doing your kids a disservice by not changing schools. This is not the 1980’s and it is not supposed to work that way. None of this is typical for the field these days.
