Recruiting forum off topic thread (no politics, covid, or hot button issues)

We live in an effed up society where sports reporters/personalities get paid millions of dollars. I mean, these aren't even the athletes that play the sports, these are the people covering those people.

Meanwhile, people like our military or first responders get paid peanuts in comparison, and all they do is put their lives on the line....

Sorry, I'll stop my rant before I get too set off.

There’s no such thing as an Unessential worker either, that’s an UnAmerican concept.

I’ll see myself out...

teachers, police, EMS need a living wage.

Saw a post where CEO's have seen a ridiculous percent increase in pay since '08, some like 1000% and middle class has seen less than 3% annually.

but a teenage gymnast with twitter account does? it isnt as easy as just standing there and smiling.
Did I say a teenage gymnast does?

I stick by my assertion. What she does does not deserve millions of dollars in salary. If ESPN is stupid enough to pay it, that's on them, but my opinion does not change.

Some also has to do with form of compensation. So many c-suite folks get stock options. A decade of quantitative easing meant inflating assets and of course stocks and, well, a big boon for CEOs. The average workers aren't worthy of stock options apparently...unless you join one of those "radical" employee-owned businesses that share in equity...

She was offered 5 mil, right? But wants 8 mil because that's what Smith gets?

Rich people problems. Has nothing to do with race or gender IMO when you're saying 5 mil isn't enough. It's ridiculous.
Not had much use for her since Drew Brees was forced to apologize for standing for the flag and she blabbered something about him needing to CONVINCE her. No issue with her beforehand.

Says who? The market dictates. Capitalism.

You and I pay for sports channels...that money goes somewhere...

If we all stop watching sports, then sure, they'd be making peanuts.
Not 100% true in this case. Many many people who don’t watch sports pay the salaries at ESPN because of how they bundle in deals for Dish, Direct TV, cable deals, etc. That’s how channels like ESPN and CNN who have seen their ratings crater in recent years can still be in business.

If a College coach that has proven nothing, other than winning in a piss bucket conference can get paid $3.75 million on faith with a 5 year gauranteed contract...

Or, NBC broadcaster gets millions to ready copy...

Or, someone who happens to buy something called bitcoin...

The value of an employee, a commodity, or anything is what someone is willing to pay them. I guess that holds true even for a teenage gymnast.

Having worked and multipy degreed in Communcations, I can tell you that it isnt as easy as you'd think. However, I tend
to agree that salaries are bloated these days.

I also admit there may be more to this story than I know or care.

Yep, I’m currently looking for a third job to throw into my life. 🥱

I grew up in a military family. It's always troubled me what our military gets paid when compared to what athletes, celebrities, etc. get paid. We pay our entertainers far, far more than our defenders.

Never understood the teachers need better pay rant. They get fall break, winter break, spring break and summer break. On top of that they get personal time off during the year. They work less hours in a year than most working people and most teachers don’t do it because it means something to them to help a child prepare for life. I can only remember a few teachers that really had a talent for teaching.

Also, if they aren’t smart enough to know the average teachers salary before they get their degree are they really that smart?

narrow minded view. working with children, esp other people's children DOES take a special person. Unless you're that rare breed that eats sleeps and breathes it, i do have friends that spend every waking moment with their kids. Then, most people need those breaks.

I think mil mindset is one of equality, brother/sisterhood over financial gain. Imagine if we paid 7figures to Seals who would do it without the money. 1) we'd have Jersey Shore trying out for BUDS 2) there'd be fewer cool toys
Military doesn't do it for the money, but they and their families know full well the sacrifices that are made for country that go unrecognized by most. Trust me, they're underpaid for what they do.

I would be absolutely for making sure that each member and their immediates are pensioned and have besr benefits for remainder of their lives (if not already).

Not really. The thought of teaching sounds like a very noble profession and it does take a special person. It seems like we get more teachers that want summers off or to coach. They don’t go into it to help prepare kids to excel in life.

If you're such an expert, YOU do it and show us all how we are doing it wrong. I coach football, work all summer. Take off 4th of July week. Also teach Trig and Calculus. The best coaches I ever hired or worked with were also great classroom teachers. You are, however, entitled to your opinion.
