Reasons to dislike Pruitt

But then I look at the expectations after the 8 win 2019 season, and then he dealt with more covid cases than any school in the east, and have to ask... if we had a healthy team in 2020 what would the record have been? The infractions and cause was enough to fire him and I'm not an apologist by any means but say we won 7-8 games in 20 would the fans have jumped his back as they did? Apples and oranges but personally I liked CJP and as a former college player would have loved to have played for him but that's me. But the amount of hate the fans had for him amazed me. The man gave us an 8-5 season and the first 2 losses were hard to swallow that year but he righted the ship. If we would have won those two game.... 10-3. But yeah he couldn't coach say you.

I know my opinion will not be popular and I hope CJH will right the ship but it amazes me how this fan base went from lauding him to hating him. COVID19 killed his team. On another note the man didn't forget how to coach and for the arm chairs here that never played or coached CFB, why judge him the way you do.

I like CJH and hope he turns things around but I ask myself how long will this fan base give him before they turn their back on him the way they did Pruitt?

Funny, fan base LOVED him in 2019 but in 2020, hated his guts. Personally I think our fan base is our worse enemy........... FLAME AWAY!

On a side note, these kids these days are coddled and they can't take hard coaching and sulk when they are called out. Can't count the times I calmed my son down when he played CFB. When a coach coaches you hard he see's promise and demands the best from you. If you don't get coached up that means they don't care because you don't have it. Good grief, my DC didn't seem to know a name other than mine but I played every game.

Here is my take on CJP. In 2019 the Vols should of had a 10 win season. Somehow his teams came out cold to start his first 2 seasons. In 2019 he had the luxury of solid team leaders on Offense with Jennings and on defense Bituli. Those guys in my opinion are the reason for the dramatic turn around.

He kept trotting JG out even though 2019 showed that he played much better off the bench. Also he was too loyal to Will Friend. That man wasted an Oline that was almost entirely 5 stars. Exhibit A is how Trey Smith was criticized for his lack of technique by scouts.

Love the man if you want but he has set this program back instead of helping us move forward. The man allegedly couldn’t get along with his staff. He alienated Tee and fired a coach at halftime. Then his swan song was that he was so despised that someone ratted him out to the NCAA.

PS this wasn’t his first stop where he couldn’t play nice with others. See he time at Georgia for example.

Reason 1. Kentucky 34-7. Bonus feature: firing DL coach at halftime
Reason 2. Arkansas 24-13
Reason 3. Losing 5 other games by 10+ despite having no starters opt out during the pandemic.
Reason 4. Georgia St 38-30
Reason 5. More losses by 20+ points through 3 years than any coach in SEC history.

It wasn’t getting better. The culture was toxic. He completely ignored in state recruiting. Anything else is revisionist history.

Beldar was so far in over his bald melon it wasn't funny. He tried to duplicate what Lord Saban does at Bammer with the McDonald's bags but he was just too stupid to pull it off. And his stubbornness with JG is the stiff of nightmares. Glad he's gone

I would like to know what happened at halftime in the Georgia State game.

My Top 5

1. McDonalds bags

2. Georgia State & BYU

3. Stubbornness / Loyalty to JG

4. (Tie) He's a Bammer / Linked to slime ball Rush Propst

5. A'ight???
Well said! He is a position coach who coached in good programs before becoming a head coach! Learned how to cheat from the best but evidently missed class the day Saban said do not directly pay players! He lacked leadership abilities and was clearly stubborn! Definitely not a Saban but tried to be.

Pruitt was a terrible head coach. That being said though, something absolutely changed about him this past season. He seemed to be neutered, less passionate. His coaching was suspect year one but he at least had passion and that seemed to produce some results at least. This past year the team and the staff seemed malcontent and dispassionate.

I don’t need a long paragraph or to paraphrase to determine anything. He flat out sucked from day 1 and he proved he wasn’t as good as coach or even on defense as everyone thought he was. He has always played coached under good head coaches and the 🐐. Anyone gonna look good when they coach under Saban. Just look at all of Sabans assistants outside of Kirby after they left and you will see they don’t do much afterwards.

No he isn’t a good teacher of the game. So you are a defensive guy. You have made your career as a defensive mind. Yet you cannot get your defensive players to line up correctly in year 3?

Pruitt constantly brought up how little he had to work with. How he needed to find guys that will do it right. He obviously created division within the team. He went through a ton of assistants in his short term. It was reported he was difficult to get along with.

Pruitt was terrible and there is no other way to spin it.
There are times when you very obviously do not read what someone actually did write... and read things between the lines that they did not write.

My source tells me everyone hated his guts. Not the type of person to say " good morning " to you or hold a door for an old lady I'm told.
Just an Alabama Redneck

I had another college coach tell me when we hired him we would regret it. He was right

While I agree to a point, how is him taking the blame for the faults of losing throwing players under the bus? First thing as a HC is you hold everyone accountable, players and coaches, Plain and simple, but I sat through too many butt chewing's aftera game that the coaches were right. We as players didn't perform. Sad but true and film on Sunday was never fun. Normally wound up on the 6:30 club which meant puking by 6:30 lol
I bet you can throw the football over the mountain.

JG was his qb - if everyone was healthy we were going 3-7
Covid didn’t make him fill McDonald’s bags with cash.
He sucked, jg sucked, and Fulmer sucked for supporting them.

I thought the 2019 season was fools gold over half those 8 wins were very fortunate wins or I would say the other team just lost
I thought it was a bad hire because of the no HC background but I supported him throughout his term but very hard after those first 2 losses all on him. Rotating O lineman like a pre-season scrimmage was hard to watch.

You have to be good enough to take what the other team gives you however

Not a valuable reason.... try again. Anyone can pick anything out of the air. Would you take a job to fail? Try again!!!!!!

For someone who supposedly played at a high level you sure do have a high opinion of yourself. I played in college and have coached at nearly every level, still do. Does that make my opinion more valuable than others? No, it doesn’t. It doesn’t take a former player or coach to see that Pruitt was in over his head. UT didn’t beat anyone better than average during the 8-5 season and wasn’t competitive against the big three, not to mention some very bad losses. Good coaches beat the teams they are supposed to beat, especially when they have more talent. Simply because Pruitt coached under Saban doesn’t mean he is a qualified head coach, many coaches don’t have the needed qualities to be a head coach. Being a successful head coach requires more than just being able to read an offense or coordinate a defense.

That is what happens when your true self is revealed. If you are upright you get the praise but if you cheat you get the boot. So as it should be.

Should have hired Tee Martin he doesn’t cheat and he is a VFL. If he had been Italian he might have gotten the job. But that Jim Crow mentally will always make you pay in the long game.

Why did we think he would be a good head coach when he had never been a head coach anywhere before? He went from being an assistant high school coach to a college position coach to a coordinator in a relatively short period of time. He didn’t stay anywhere long enough to develop anyone from recruiting to draft and always coordinated for coaches who were already proven successes and defensive minded to boot. The only thing he had in his favor was he wasn’t that other guy. We should have hired the pirate and just had some fun.

I’m hoping you’re trolling.

Fans, alumni, administration, etc do not give one single flying F if a coach is VFL, about the race of the coach, etc. They only care if they believe a coach can win. Not one single program in the entire nation believes in Tee Martin as a head coach, has zero to do with his race. James Franklin was our primary target during the coaching search and had to say no to two offers before we looked elsewhere.

Tee will not be a Power 5 HC anytime soon. Great college player does not automatically mean he should be our Hc. Yes, that goes for Peyton too.
