Nashville 50 greatest high school football players of all timeJohn Henderson not on this list?
Or Derek Barnett?
Or Jalen Ramsey?
Harrison Smith was highly recruited by Tennessee.
Name a few he missed on over 16 years, and don't count all the players Bama bought. He certainly cherry-picked the best players from surrounding states.
Our return to Championships is more connected to Saban's retirement than anything we can control.I think it may take several years to get back to winning championships.
But once we do get there, the payout will be immediate in recruiting, both in-state and beyond Tennessee.
So if Heupel is the right guy to get us back where we want to be, we could see it all play out over just four or five years.
It's a wonderful notion. It is at the root of what it means to be American to be in control of your own destiny. It's a message that I resonate with as well.I'm hoping not, McDad.
I'm hoping we come back quick enough, and strong enough, that WE cause Saban to retire, rather than him retiring before we win another championship.
That's fine. I'm just answering the question you asked. It didn't say anything about being highly recruited. Here it is below.
Chad Pennington ended up at Marshall, so a lot of schools missed out on him. Golden Tate was never going anywhere but Notre Dame. Randall Cobb was promised QB at Kentucky and ended up at WR, where Fulmer would have put him anyway.Chad Pennington, Randall Cobb, Golden Tate, Tyson Clabo (Dad played for Tennessee), Patrick Willis. Probably a few more but those stick out.
You do know there was a limit as to how many kids you could sign? Also, back in Fulmer's day, our state did not have near as many bluechip D1 prospects. Usually around 8-10 every year.

From that late era I would say Greg Hardy was a big miss too. I don't feel like they recruited him as hard as Oher.

Never saw the first article. Was wondering why Big John wasn't on there.
