Tampa Bay chose Rickey Bell over Tony Dorsett...........Rickey had a nice career, that was cut way too short due to a disease, but wasn’t Tony. Imagine how history would have changed

In 1995, the Vols hosted Georgia. A young Peyton Manning threw for over 300 yards, but the steady running of Jay Graham helped keep Georgia’s offense off the field. Graham had 28 carries for 137 yards. He was the only Vol with positive yards on the ground in the 30-27 victory.

I almost had a nervous breakdown because of how big a day Georgia running back Robert Edwards had in this game before he got hurt i think he had over 200 yards rushing. I think if he would have stayed healthy Georgia may have been 10-1 in 1995.

Ricky Bell was a good running back but he was never in the class of Tony Dorsett. Seattle could have drafted Tony Dorsett also but they drafted Tulsa tackle Steve August who wound up being a flop in the NFL.

From 1999-2002, Leonard Scott blessed the Vols as a receiver and track star. Scott was a Gold Medalist in the World Indoor Championship in 2006. On the football field, Scoot was a speedster who could take the top off a defense. Scott caught 28 career passes for 328 yards and 3 TDs, and was a dynamic kick returner with 77 returns for 1,788 yards and a touchdown. Always a threat when on the field, he also had 14 carries for 136 yards and 2 TDs.

After the Vols barely beat Colorado State, the 1989 season looked troublesome, but attitudes changed the following week. UT traveled to LA to play #6 UCLA. Sterling Henton only threw for 109 yards, but the Cobb/Webb crew handled business. Chuck Webb had 22 carries for 134 yards and 2 TDs in the 24-6 victory. That victory could be said is what launched the Vols to the championship type teams they would have until the early 2000’s.
