The Spring Roster is Upon us

Roster has talent, but depth is a concern. Really need a few good transfers. Would have liked Gibbs to play this year. Don’t care about Henry T, but Crouch could have made an impact as a hybrid OLB/DE type especially ruching the QB.
Anyway, we could use about 4-5 transfers for depth. 1 LB, 2 DB, 1 OL would be nice. An Elite TE would be a good bonus...

Still waves better. Cept for a half season available Trey Smith and Darrell Taylor, the players Pruitt inherited were slow and poorly conditioned...but made up for it by being small.

Agreed. I am not about to get too stoked for this roster but there are some positives with some obvious weaknesses. I think we have depth at OL and return a good amount of experience with that unit. The QB competition should be one of better ones we have had in a while (still expect HB to be the starter). WR & RB groups have some talent to work with. TE doesn’t look promising unless unproven players emerge. We have a lot of bodies at DL that have played a lot of snaps (many upperclassmen). Hopefully some of the younger highly touted DL players can play to their ranking that were signed in the previous classes. Lack of a proven pass rusher is a big concern along with Line backers especially with HT and Crouch likely gone. CB depth is also lacking. GBO!

I think CJH Inherited the better roster. Pruitt didnt know how to use the talent, but Dooley didnt recruit an entire lineman in a cycle sheesh. Butchs Last year was all misses. So definitely CJH inherited best roster

Nothing says Tennessee football like having 2 WRs with the names Dobrucky and Frerking

No, nothing says Tennessee football like tolling your players' eligibility by a year, even though the NCAA said that last year was a freebie. I notice that across the entire roster (for example, Harrison Bailey is not a sophomore...he's still a freshman).

good lord this team has talent. 8 wins will not be hard with good coaching. Im thinking more like 9 rather easily.

There is not a lot of top level SEC talent on this team. To say 8 wins will not be hard is not a realistic statement. Young guys who have not started but showed flashes of being good pales in comparison with SEC teams. Plus, you better have depth and speed all around. Here is an honest take from a big UT fan:

--Offensive line: a lot of guys returning, no all SEC talent there. No depth
--QB: We don't even know who the starter will be. No proven winners here
--RB: We are down to hoping a JUCO is very good. Backups have only shown glimpses of good play
--WR: There is some speed here but none has produced as a proven starter in SEC play. Can Hyatt get off press coverage from best DBs.
--DL: No proven speed rusher, no proven run stopper, no depth
--LB: No starters are returning. No proven consistent success, no depth
--DB: No depth, no proven shut down corner. A lack of SEC speed

Where is all of this great talent that guarantees 8 wins? It's gonna take a couple of years to get to where you can be confident in predicting 8 wins in season.

Any surprises for you all as to who is still here, gone, or back for the Covid year?
Thought Aaron Willis , Isaac Washington and Martavius French had been suspended for a misdemeanor .
Drug possession and paraphernalia .
Disappointing Miles Campbell listed as only 6'1'' as a TE when he was 6'3" supposedly when recruited .

My main concern is defensive depth. CJH likes to score fast. We saw what happened last year when our D had to be on the field for extended periods of time.

I don't know if 9 is possible, but I would like to run the table on OCC games, sweep the SCs, Ole Miss, Vandys, KYs, MOs part of the schedule and it would be Nirvana to beat the Gators and/or the BooDogs. Living in GA I would be absolutely obnoxious if we could put the hob nail boot in UGA's neck.

I see a roster that I think is the 3rd most talented in the SEC East and in the top half of the SEC. This is a program that is desperate for good coaching and has the talent to make a quick turnaround, but obviously still a good ways off from competing at the top. Hopefully this new staff gets it done. I think the talent on offense is outstanding and if the offense struggles this season, then that's a really bad sign for Heupel. With his reputation, this offense should score a lot of points. I do think 8 wins is very realistic.

You must really be familiar with all other teams' rosters to make these statements. I, on the other hand, don't really know more than a handful of players on any other rosters.
I agree the program is desperate for good coaching.
