Former NFL lineman Kyle Turley said it saved his life. Google the USA Today article on him. Josh Peter wrote it. I couldn't copy it.

That’s a mainstream media anecdote of one person. How about medical research with criteria to prove success?
Not bashing you at all, but I don’t think that’s the proof that he was looking for...

The fact that Science Hill has been so terrible at football until recently has really hurt D-B over the years, IMO. Now, Crockett and other teams in the area are getting better. That might actually help them.
Getting better?

I would argue contrarily. Elizabethton, Greenville, Crockett being better has hurt SHHS. After half time performance half crowd gets up and leaves football game. Band is a bigger deal than football.

Maybe you don’t know how the NBA operates. They aren’t drafting for someone to start next year. They are looking for development and then serious contribution in a couple of years.
Every pro organization is looking for people to start immediately. Especially if they are drafted in the 1st round like Johnson is projected. But yes for certain players they are banking on “development” usually later round guys.

Now do a chart on alcohol and nicotine.

So nicotine has zero real benefits. No research to show it’s worth. Nicotine is the most addictive drug in my opinion.

Alcohol in moderation has huge cardiac benefits. (Especially red wine over others.) Many medical studies to prove this. Red wine can also slow some types of cancer...also proven medically.

In moderation, alcohol and weed are okay and likely have some benefits.

Even at one cigarette per day, that amount of nicotine can stop healing to a significant degree if not completely. That’s why tobacco smokers look older...they are because their body can’t perform daily life repairs in the presence of nicotine.

All three (alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana) at consistent high intake amounts are detrimental and toxic. Now that you can vape high dose THC and through edibles, the toxic effects will show over time. Just like mass produced cigarettes allowed toxic doses of tobacco to occur. It can be argued, but there’s no medical proof on the side of its harmless. Time will tell.

FYI, I don’t care if it’s legalized, but it needs to be regulated as to amounts allowed in vape cartridges or in edibles. JMO

Nicotine was used as an insecticide before being outlawed due to toxicity, along with DDT.

Yep. People want to use science to justify and rationalize - until they don't.

He wasn’t TRYING to end his career no matter how much you wanna hate FL.

Elbows are commonplace in bball, they just don’t always connect. This one did.

And if you don’t think you can “get someone back” in a bball game without looking to injure them (or if you think that dude deserves to be arrested HAHA) then you didn’t play basketball. All kinds of ways to hide elbows to ribs, elbows to the back, knees to the thighs. Not to mention “running through” screens or running through the lane and the opposing player happens to be there, hard fouls on fast breaks, etc.

You can literally make someone’s night miserable while not trying to end their career.

Edit: but also yes the pre-workout had kicked in so I may have wanted to tango

I have thrown elbows in basketball. Never above the shoulders and never twice in the same time. It was intended to cause harm. No way that he wasn’t throwing them high for a reason.

Back in my teenage years, I smoked more than 10x a day. For about 3-4 years. Not sure about the brain damage portion of your statement. I have several post graduate degrees and *self brag* excellent cognitive abilities.

Surely at this point medicinal marijuana has to be better than medications such as opiates over the long term. I see some utility for medicinal marijuana in chronic pain patients and those who suffer from anxiety/ stress induced medical conditions such as severe cases of PTSD. We both know long term use of opiates can cause liver and renal failure amongst many other conditions. It’s also possible to overdose on opiates, whereas I have yet to hear of someone overdosing on marijuana. As someone whose spouse is on a high dose of opiates (has been for 15 years due to RSD/CRPS Type II), I’d love to see her transition to something more effective and safer in the long term. She currently takes MS Contin and Hydros around the clock. Thanks to Ketamine therapy, her pain was reduced and her tolerance was somewhat reset. She used to be in Fentanyl, Diluadid, Ativan, and Morphine.
Which brings another point in opioid therapy that’s negative in the long term. It messes with the Mu receptors in the brain and can fundamentally change brain chemistry.

Imagine how smart you would have been...😊

There’s also exceptions to every rule tobacco users always point to the person at a 100 that smoked and drank every day of their life...while ignoring all the ones that died early from tobacco.

Never argued for opiods. Was just pointing out that all my life that I have heard how harmless marijuana is. Now with the ability to megadose THC with edibles and vapes, we will find out, but large scale results will take time, just like it did for tobacco...

Does marijuana have positive benefits? Yes. But no substance (including water) doesn’t show toxic effects at high enough doses. The point that I was making is that like everything, there’s also a downside.

With everything, moderation is the key.

My point was that D-B's biggest rival has been awful at football. With the caliber of athletes at the school, it makes no sense, except it has been atrocious coaching. Does DB play Elizabethton or Greeneville? If not, then they should

Totally agree with all of this and I guess that's a good thing since you are a doctor and are reporting factual information. My point was that the OP posted a chart of all the damage weed could do. Therefore, I assume, in his opinion, it should remain illegal. My counterpoint was we have two other drugs, nicotine and alcohol, currently legal that do as much as if not far greater harm. Nicotine won't hamper your driving, I am guessing, but agree on all the putrid medical outcomes that are part of being a nicotine addict.

it was either last year or year before we went to Playoffs.

We always play Elizabethton. Point is rich and middle class follow sprawl. Eastman lives in JC. Wellmont is hq there. People reside in Jboro and Boones Creek...ergo Crockett, Boone, UH, Providence compete for players.

The days of Nookie, Jovann, and OD type players are gone.

Well then SH clearly missed their window. Really strong basketball team back in the late 90s and early 2000s.

Edit: I just saw where they were suspended indefinitely. Dang. I was looking forward to seeing Willis.
Indefinitely just means until the issue is resolved. Aka Court and Punishment from the Football staff/School

It is just a simple possession charge I’d be surprised if it even sticks once they go to court.

Edit: Kenneth George is still on the team and he fought and evaded a cop...

I’ve got one reason to stay away from the marijuanas: Bill Walton. How he’s still gainfully employed by ESPN is beyond me.
I believe it's purely for the entertainment. There's no telling what Walton will say at any given moment and some of the stuff he says is beyond entertaining :):)

I do not like the one and dones. It is not a smart way to build a program. We are gonna be left with nothing next year. I would rather have brought in multi-year little-lesser rated players than KJ and Springer. We may have won less games this year, but we would be set for a good run next year. The Grant-Admiral-Bone-Alexander type should be our template. I don't give a dang about having a lottery pick that doesn't play like one very often.
I agree with you on this but the LOM's will constantly bring up lousy recruiting and he's not worth $5M. We're kinda in no mans land right now.
