Putting Gaines in to guard Jones was a great move by Barnes. I have watched that replay about 6 times and, for the life of me, can't understand why the refs never called traveling on Jones. hell, he took about 4 or 5 steps before even attempting to throw up his shot. It was supposed to be a offense/defense/offense sub. No one could have forseen the ref calling the foul on Jones sending poor Gaines to the line. Just another example of the pathetic officiating and our bad luck.

The BB team has improved greatly in last two-three weeks. Yesterday’s team with Fulk was finally healthy. We lost today because Fulk was not there. Our success in tournament will depend on his status. You can gripe and complain, but Covid and injuries have hurt us. We missed two weeks to start season. James and Springer injuries really hurt us. If this was a regular season without Covid, we would have seen better results. Now, the real season starts. Regular season is tune up for tourney.
BTW, officiating is the biggest hinderance to college basketball being a great sport. Officials are so inconsistent and do not allow players to play the game. I only watch Vol games because it just frustrates me to see great athletes unable to perform at high levels because of shoddy officiating.

Because Jones travels every time he touches the ball. If they call it then, they would have had to call it all game. Alabama walked on almost every out of bounds play on their offensive baseline.

I told my son that you can’t do what the Bama inbounder did late in the game. He jumped up and down with the ball without passing. It’s sad that the NBA rules are leaking into college. They can clean it up by actually calling violations of walking and palming but also be more lenient with the charge call to allow more offense. You don’t have to call a foul every time there is contact going to the basket. I’ve said it for years that college officiating is atrocious...and the same bozos like Pat Adams, Toney Greene, Doug Shows, and Teddy V get thrown out there. Can’t believe the conference accepts it, but we know they just are about the bottom line.

We’ve had some of the most talented teams in our history over the last few years and continue to fall short in SEC tournament.

Why the heck can we not get over the hump

Jerry Green probably had the most talented team in history and could barely win a game in the SECT. Pearl had talented teams and made one SECT final. Barnes was going for his third straight final today. He’s actually outperformed in the SECT compared to how the program has historically done. Kind of revionist history here.

Officiating changed the outcome of today’s game. They stopped letting us play basketball there in the second half. Every time we tried to drive it was a foul. Think the foul count was 8 to 2 by the end of the 12-0 bama went on

Think the loss today be a blessing in disguise. Let the guys rest up before the really tourney

Anyone else remember watching that year and being mesmerized by this kid playing for a nobody team? Legendary MM performance, just short of Kemba Walker's run and I'd add Gordon Hayward's, albeit Curry on a far worse overall team.

One of the best single game performances I have seen in the tourney.

When’s the last time Tennessee won a championship in a sport of relevance? Not talking regular season basketball I’m talking tournament? We suck at football, our prestigious women’s basketball team sucks, our basketball team never gets it done when it matters, baseball is promising but hasn’t won anything. We are a pitiful sports school. With pitiful leadership who tells on ourselves for bs because we want a coach gone. We have pitiful boosters who fight like teenage girls over what’s best for the school. Just an all around crappy place.

I feel like we have just as much if not more talent than teams like Bama, LSU, and AR, but our offensive system doesn’t allow our star players to take over the game like their systems do. I really hate Barnes’ offense.

Alabama was carrying the ball a lot as well dribbling over their shoulders.

we also have 0 inside game. Even with Fulkerson I’ve said it a thousand times he’s not someone you run the offense for. He’s solely a hustle play rebound and scrappy player. He is and never was going to be a “go to guy” like grant.

I don’t understand how any of our guys are going to be drafted honestly. All of them have terrible ball handling skills and get pick pocketed every time they drive into the paint.....

Jordan Bone makes all those guys look like scrubs and doesn’t even start in the pros....

Keon is pretty much a top 10 pick on every site. He’s got incredible athletic ability and he’s 19 so he’s an attractive prospect and he will play wing in the league. Springer is hit or miss some have him going high and others don’t. His game translates less than keons does but he’s got a better shot.

I understand the thought process but they don’t look like pro Athletes when they play to me. Especially Springer.

Now like you said Johnson has freakish athleticism but has a lot to be desired everywhere else.
