Real talk. At what point does CFB start losing viewers and national attention because of the Alabama, Ohio State, Clemsons staleness? When will the NCAA adjust rules to help balance the field?

Good post, cat. Probably when the money becomes an issue even though they should be proactively addressing it for all members to keep the playin field level for everybody since it would generate even more money like March Madness does.

It's getting unbearable having a predetermined CFB playoffs. Meanwhile look at basketball and how many teams can win it all each and every year

Right now it's Bama, Clemson, and OSU plus a wild card. Just like everything else, that cycle will break, but its painful. 12 years ago I never thought USC would fall off the map.

I agree. Nothing changes until it hits them in the wallet.

And they still haven’t.

Bama/OSU ain’t going anywhere unless the NCAA steps in. Clemson is TBD. It’s a self-licking ice cream cone at this point. CFB isn’t the same game of cycles as it was 29 years ago. It’s now setup where the super rich get perpetually richer.

Ohio state is because Michigan has fallen so far..... Saban will retire in a few years and Bama will slide back..... the rest of the ncaa needs to step it’s a$$ up.

It's a hard problem to solve. NFL does it with a draft and a salary cap. Bama has no salary cap, and Dooley said it best: "NSD is just like the NFL draft, except Bama gets the first 25 picks".

Correct, Saban is an anomoly. That's a wait and see at this point. I won't wring my hands over him or them anymore, just is what it is. Let's give Ryan Day a few more years. Remember, Randy Coker made the U look good for a minute.

What is a self-licking ice cream cone?

For decades going back to the 50's CFB was centered around Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, USC, Texas, Oklahoma, and Bama. Some of the same older power brokers who came up through the system since then still have the ability to manipulate things the way the way they want them. To change that will require some funerals along with continuous pressure. The pressure has to always come from what hits them in the pocket. it's the only thing they understand. Find a way to get sports media and average fans in unison leveraging their influence on the process to rock the revenue boat and change may come.

I didn’t enjoy watching college football last year. Not just because UT was vomit tier but just the sport in general sucks right now. Its lost its magic

I'm afraid in the next 3-5 years we are going to see a change in college sports overall. I understand the argument on both sides about players being payed for NIL and many other changes like transfer rules and such but right or wrong they will make a change in the landscape of college sports forever. I don't think the average fan as a whole will like many if any of the new changes at first and depending on how it is handled will determine how they will be accepted by the fans in the long run. I don't think the NCAA will survive as a ruling body when it is all said and done and P5 schools will start their on league and reap the benefits of the TV money however they deem fit.

It’s repetitive and there is no parity. I used to watch as much CFB as I could get. Now the best players ride the pine on about 4 teams and only play one year before going pro.

Maybe letting the players go pro after their second year would increase the parity and make the season fun again.

I agree. If we are honest about it we realize CFB changed for good when it became big money oriented with the explosion of games on TV each week. It is basically the minor league equivalent for the NFL. G5 is low and high A. Below that is rookie league/developmental/independent leagues. P5 is AA and AAA. So there is really not much need for the NCAA as it is now. Would be a lot less painful to just go on and develop a method/structure for the transition. Real player comp is going to happen in some form.

MLB is now backfilling more and more with college players. They've reduced the number of minor league affiliates each org can have and are using colleges to develop the talent for easier entry.

Commitment day is not the same as signing day.
He said he wants to go where he can compete for National Championships and where coaches will help him get to the NFL.
(1) In all probability, UT will not win a National Championship during his time in college
(2) Our current coaches can probably get him ready for the NFL
(3) Bama has competed for and won the National Championship on a fairly regular basis
(4) Do the math

And he got his fifth star recently for no other reason than the services knew he was picking Bama.
