Rick Barnes discussion [merged]

That’s a stupid take. They bust their butts on defense. They wouldn’t be 10 games over .500 and ranked at all had they “checked out”.
These takes are amazing for a team that is 16-6, vying for Top 3 in conference and a projected 4/5 NCAAT seed...there is a middle ground between being a really good team and “checking out” on the season.

What do you mean “ finally” a good coach? Pearl coaches circles around Barnes. Just check their head to head records, especially when it really matters , like Championship games.

Martin & Tyndall weren’t good coaches.

Pearl is long gone, best to move on from him.

At the end of this year, Barnes will have made more tournaments at UT in 6 years than Pearl will have made at Auburn in 7 years. Pearl definitely owns Barnes in the category of players arrested and/or kicked off the team for disciplinary reasons. I’ll give him that.

Oh, Tyndall has no problem with coaching ability he just got on the wrong end of the cheating coin. There are coaches they let get away with it and coaches they don't. Not sure how he got on the bad side.

How bad of a situation do y'all think it would place the men's basketball program if Rick Barnes announced his retirement following the NCAA Tournament?

Sure would be bad to also lose Chandler, JJJ, Fulk, and Mashack. And the 3 assistant coaches.

I don’t look at the current regime as simply Barnes. I see it as Barnes, Schwartz, Oliver, AND English. With Lanier still in the family. The 4 we have right now are possibly the best group we’ve ever had (although Stu, Ray, and AW & others (inc Tom Deaton) was mighty fine as well).

I think Rob Lanier has a great chance to succeed Coach Barnes if Danny White doesn't hire his brother Mike.

Sorry, but it's not that simple. There are distinctive details with each individual case

Not having a bad year right now at GA State. But awfully strange. Looks like they’re playing a few teams 3x this year.

I hope that the Barnes Bashers extend their campaign to the Whites if nepotism creeps into play.

Then you don’t listen to his press conferences. You just sit back and assume.

I've listened - listened to him rip his players at every turn. The whole hard coaching is different than driving players into the ground. It was evident in the final moments of the Vandy game that Springer and Keon were over his constant railing. You can't just rip your team over and over and over.

But no... Barnes doesn't want dogs. He had one on the line with Springer and Keon but he didn't take him. Admiral wasn't his guy and didn't like some of Admirals "antics" for lack of a better term.

Springer deserved it. The game was a nearly lock if he backed it out and ran clock. Instead he opted for a low percentage alley-oop to Keon which opened the door for a 3-point shooting team. It reminded me of JaJuan Smith’s stupid attempt at the end of a game that Pearl lost his **** over.

Barnes finally comes out and defends his teams lack of gusto. Kind of.

Lol, Pearl made the tourney all 6 years he was at UT Including our only Elite 8. Barnes has been twice and underperformed both times.. Pearl is 8-4 head to head against Barnes . Facts don’t lie

Barnes is the problem. He has taken the fun out of it for these guys and you can tell by the way they are playing. Early in the season they were running up and down the court and having fun. Barnes constantly jumps their azz and jerks them out of games if they make a mistake. Instead Of playing loose and having fun they play scared. That’s why , except for Bailey, they are scared to shoot and pass up open shots all the time. It’s getting old.

Barnes does the exact opposite of what you are making up. He’s been criticizing them for passing up good looks.

Calipari did the same thing early in the year, and KY played as if they were afraid to shoot or make a mistake; he has subsequently backed off and let them play, and you can see the difference in their scoring average and their record. Barnes needs to let the horses run because we will go nowhere but back to Knoxville if we remain status quo.

What amazes me is a part of the fan Base doesn't talk about or appreciate this. They only focus on the BBQ and Bruce's attempt to cover it up.

That's nothing compared to Will Wade and others.

I appreciate what Bruce acxomplished. I appreciate what Rick is doing. Why can't we appreciate both?

Probably because Pearl is the reason why we got into this mess in the first place.

Had he not go full blown stupid over something so small, he’d probably still be here.

Barnes for the most part is trying to build our program the right way and he’s getting crucified for it.
