To Protect and to Serve II

The guy was either medicated or mentally unstable, I think got what he asked for. What it does show is how worthless 9mm ammunition is at stopping someone, he was shot close to 10 times before he fell.
The officer was too out of shape and poorly trained to do anything else. Never let a crazy. Idiot with a weapon that can crack your head close that much ground. I would’ve went taser while backing up and/or tackle him if I had backup on the way. Once the guy started to try to split his skull with the stick he deserved the bullets. And also you see how “why did they shoot him so much” happens

No arguments from me on anything.

It certainly makes me think about going Clint Eastwood and having a 357 magnum vs a pea shooter 9mm.
No such thing as a guaranteed every time one shot stop. Shot placement has always been and will always be king.

Some people teach if your first 1-3 shots are ineffective, you need to inhibit movement by adjusting your fire to the pelvic girdle. Then, last resort worst scenario, you shoot the head.

The "two to the chest, one to the head" trend found footing in the LE community after SC Trooper Mark Coates was murdered. In theory, that one shot to the brain will result in instantaneous incapacitation. In practice, and as we've seen on numerous occasions, placing that 3rd shot on target is all but impossible in the chaotic, often panicky, adrenaline-charged hyperactivity of a gunfight.

The better strategy, IMO, is to put that 3rd shot into (as DTH so eloquently stated) the pelvic girdle. It's a bigger target; it's less likely to be bobbing around; and if you miss the bullet is more likely to hit the ground than a missed headshot that might kill an innocent 100 yards down range. For me, if/when that 230 grain hollowpoint hits the pelvis, it's going to shatter a major load-bearing piece of bone, and there's a good chance it will sever a major vein or artery. In other words, down you go and out you go, within a matter of seconds. So I'll take the higher percentage shot.

To each their own, but I don't shoot often enough to have a high degree of confidence that I could hit the head at any distance in the middle of a vulgar gunfight, so when I do shoot (practice), it's "two in the living room, and one in the basement".

It's old school stuff, and I know you get it, but I'm a fan of "throw the heaviest round you can; throw it at the biggest piece of the bad guy you can see; and keep shooting it until it stops moving". I'm not going to limit myself to 3 rounds in a gunfight. That's another reason why I always carry at least one full reload (off duty), and usually two. It would likely suck to run out of ammo before I ran out of things that needed to be shot.

Y'all be safe out there...

Nobody likes a rat.... but.... I think I’d probably have pressed charges on the guy for the simple fact that he’d have nailed me for something lesser under different circumstances
That is true. The cops wouldn't have given him a pass. But I think this was the proper punishment all the way around. The cop started the fight and is being punished with 4 days off no pay, but isn't going to jail. My thing is that citizens should be given the same level of punishment. Not every crime or violation needs to result in jail time.
