Rick Barnes discussion [merged]

John Beilein is great and obviously did wonderfully at Michigan, but I do not want to force out a consistent 66-year-old just to hire a 68-year-old who has been out of college coaching for the last two seasons.
Anyone can win at Michigan. Juwan Howard went there with no head coaching experience and is already winning big. It’s a really easy job. UT isn’t.

Barnes is a good coach, but not great. Their play this year is very disappointing. True they are missing a point and a big, but those recruiting misses are on him. He has brought respect and stability to the program, so not all is bad. But let's not act like he is irreplaceable.

I don’t think we’ve ever paid a coach $5M a year either. Expectations should be higher
For God’s sake, we didn’t pay him that because we all of a sudden demanded to be a top 5 program. We did it because we thought a top 5 program was about to pay him that to take him away. And did you really want Fulmer running a basketball coaching search?

Soooooo........just trying to understand what is happening in this thread from OP. Now that we've made a decent DC hire and there isnt much to whine about football wise right now, we grasp at straws of things to complain about and the first one you come up with is firing a #16 ranked Tennessee coach who has a pretty good winning record right now?...........I mean........this is one of the only decent teams we have on campus right now, this argument makes absolutely no sense.
Who’ll be a 9 seed after getting beat by Auburn-if not Vandy.

Being 1 of the top 16 teams in the country is pretty good. Just like being being 1 of the top 4 teams in the playoffs in football is pretty good. Remember when UT was in the SEC championship game in 2007 and then Fulmer was fired the following year? How did that work out for us. Wouldn’t it be great to just make it to Atlanta again?
Top 16? Hardly....

Tennessee is on an upward path and they have been, consistently, under Barnes. He has been the best coach we've had since I've been alive, imo, oc. Some of you haven't seen Tennessee when we showcased garbage teams who gave garbage performances game after game and it shows.

With the exception of a couple Pearl teams, no team since probably 1990 or so could consistently compete with any Barnes team.

Those of you gnashing your teeth and cry-babying around should be extremely thankful we have a coach like Barnes.
Trajectory over past 2 years has been anything but upwards

You act like this wasn’t a preseason top 10 team...

Where am I wrong?

Even Pearl whose worshipped around these parts, had some very bad moments.

Tennessee has never made the Final Four nor won National Titles, yet we’re expected those kind of results just because Barnes makes 5 million?

Makes no sense.

You’re always wrong. There, saved us both some time.
If you invest in your program you expect returns. Same as If you got a raise at your place of employment (I would assume this is a fast food restaurant given your reading comprehension skills) you would be expected to to be more productive and continue to grow for the company.
A mere appearance in the NCAA means nothing these days. You act like we should be hanging banners for being a middle of the pack SEC team and getting bounced by a double digit seed on the regular? Embarrassing

Whataboutism!!!! Great point. Guarantee those teams will be juggernauts again, likely next year. And we will continue to be mediocre, perpetually. some fans just seems to want it to be so.

EVERY blue blood isn’t living up to expectations this year. But TN with 7 of their first 9 being 1st or 2nd year players should? Whattabout that?
