Yeah the whole argument that a rb coach should only be a recruiter cause rb coaches don't do anything else is a weird narrative. Seems like nfl teams wouldn't waste money on it then. There's a lot of coaching that makes good RBs. Pass pro is the most obvious, but understanding the footwork, knowing how to press the hole, set up blocks, when to use quick short steps instead of long strides, when to use jump cuts and when a slide step would work better, where to anticipate the hole, etc etc etc. There's tons of examples of RBs who had all the talent in the world fizzle out because of lack of good coaching.
It looks like Coach JH tried to fill our vacant RB position with a young coach with southeast recruiting connections and with prior history of developing offensive skill players. I have heard a few names that turned us down. All fit this template. JH went after some who fit this template at large schools, but stayed with the template. Mack is a good fit and I think will prove to be an excellent hire.

I'd love to have Steele...

Meh, Steele...

House sounds ok, but I'd rather have Steele.

Al Washington? Let me google. Honestly i'd rather have House...this guy hasn't called plays before!

Rodgers? Who? Really want Washington! If we don't get him we're dead as a program!

Who is Conklin? Really want Rodgers! NFL experience!

Inb4 Friday: Ray?? Wtf is Ray? Can't believe we're going to lose out on Conklin! We're toast!

If the DC search goes past this weekend then I’m gonna think Conklin is the choice and they’re gonna wait on him.

Not saying that I agree with it, but maybe that’s the move.

If Washington, then he coaches LB and Garner DL.
If Conklin, then he coaches in the secondary and Garner DL.
If Rodgers, then who between he and Garner coaches DL?

Spring practice is right around the corner with new installs on both sides of the ball no way I can see that happening.

I see so much concern over the recruiting aspect of every coach we hire and or mention. One thing that I think we all take for granted is that over the last several years and as up and down as our record has been we have been able to be ranked in the mid-teens or better every year in recruiting.
I know that we have to get the best recruits to compete in the SEC but we need people that can manage and coach them as well.

Matt Campbell who was a hot name has not had a class rated above number 45 since coming to ISU in the ratings and I believe his 2021 class is #59 Stanford is #50, Vandy #48 and Cinncinatti is #42. You need the players no doubt but the coaches that coach them up in most cases is just as important and as UT goes forward we might just have one with the right staff and player buy in. I hope we are all in for a pleasant surprise this coming year and many to come. Time will tell but taking a new route may be what we need because or old worn path has had us going in circles for too long.

Everyone talks about recruiting, but who at a major SEC program was a good coach but couldn’t win cause they couldn’t recruit. Will wait for a good example. Florida, Georgia, Bama, Barn, LSU, Tennessee. Name me a good coach who lost just cause he couldn’t recruit at a high enough level?

JM at florida would fit that mold

and it’s possible if not likely it will be the end to their current coach as well
