Was David Johnson a head coach or even an offensive coordinator anywhere (besides a HS)? The fact that this guy has run not just an offense but an entire program puts him well above David Johnson

The head job he had is to be blunt a very bad place to coach

I do like the fact he’s been an OC

Hopefully it works out but just because he’s from Memphis doesn’t mean he’s going to just going to land any kid from there that he wants. Other schools have coaches from the area as well.

Also been coaching for almost 20 years & hasn’t made it to a big time school until now.

Why are we finding the negative in everyone? Is 15 the new 20?

His last year of playing was 2003, and he’s 40 years old. Has already been a HC.

Welcome to Rocky Top Coach Mack

RBs are the easiest position to coach. He has been a head coach before and is only 40 years old. We definitely hired him for recruiting Memphis so it’s not all bad. People wouldn’t complain about Montario Hardesty and this guy has the better resume between the two.

All you have to do point toward the line and say run hard as you can if there is a hole hit if not good luck.

I don’t think I’d say similar profile. Tulane and memphis are well ahead of any of the places this guy has been. Seems off to me he was at memphis 1 year and then went backwards in programs
Was just pointing out that neither had p5 conference experience. I can’t remember how old DJ was but Mack is only 40 and has 6 years of coordinator experience and 4 successful years as a HC. Having recruiting relationships in Houston memphis and Carolina can't hurt.

Well this hire will have way more information for them then that since he was a former OC. He will be able to teach them to rub and run routes properly to look for that clearing in the hole and hit it. When and how to block properly something we couldn’t do last year.

I'm ready to just see how everything turns out come football time. I don't think I'm going to see anything that gives me confidence until games start, but maybe Heupel knows what he's doing
