Still, sources confirmed to FootballScoop that the Tennessee defensive coordinator vacancy has elicited strong interest from the college ranks, including coaches with Power-5 coordinator experience as well as head coaching experience, and multiple NFL assistant coaches

Sources... DW? Keeping some control over critical narratives? I would.

To go from FootballScoop saying something like this to settling for the guy from Wofford would be disheartening to me. Yeah, I know he's the HC there, but it doesn't change my opinion. I was hoping for better.

Now with what I believe is a good coaching staff coming together on the offensive side of the ball , my concerns are on the defensive side of the ball, as many of yours are as well. Finding the correct fit is paramount for the future success of our ball club. We need to be just as aggressive on the defensive side as we hope to be on the offensive side giving ample opportunity to score against or opponent.
................WWWWHHHHOOOOAAAA...............Lucid thought.

David Johnson was really good for us. Similar profile but higher level than DJ.

I don’t think I’d say similar profile. Tulane and memphis are well ahead of any of the places this guy has been. Seems off to me he was at memphis 1 year and then went backwards in programs

Was David Johnson a head coach or even an offensive coordinator anywhere (besides a HS)? The fact that this guy has run not just an offense but an entire program puts him well above David Johnson

This makes no sense.

He has coached QB and WR his whole career and has never coached RBs.

Is there truly a RB coach that wouldn't come to the UT?
RBs are the easiest position to coach. He has been a head coach before and is only 40 years old. We definitely hired him for recruiting Memphis so it’s not all bad. People wouldn’t complain about Montario Hardesty and this guy has the better resume between the two.

Hopefully it works out but just because he’s from Memphis doesn’t mean he’s going to just land any kid from there that he wants. Other schools have coaches from the area as well.

Also been coaching for almost 20 years & hasn’t made it to a big time school until now.

Quick look at his resume says he's never coached RBs, which isn't that big a deal, but can he recruit? Wonder what happened with Jabbar Juluke? Seemed like a much better candidate IMO.

He’s from Memphis and was the head coach at NC Central, which means he has connections in NC. The interesting thing is that he has a very good record as HC. Must have left for money.

Anyone can coach RBs. It’s the easiest position to coach.
Which is why you fill the spot with a proven recruiter. Problem being, this guy isn't a proven recruiter. Hopefully it works out, but my initial feeling about it is "meh". Hopefully he proves me wrong. Been saying that a lot lately.
