From OSU 247 mod...

As of this morning there was still no official news on Al Washington and whether he stays at Ohio State or takes the Tennessee defensive coordinator job. But in either event, Washington is going to do quite well on the salary front.

According to one source, Ohio State has offered Washington at least $1 million to stay.

Another source has told Bucknuts the Volunteers have offered at least 1.25 million and possibly 1.5 million or even a bit more to head to the Orange. The source said in addition to money, another factor would be title at Ohio State and if Ryan Day would also name Washington co-defensive coordinator.

Stay tuned…

We'll see, but I stick by my assertion a good AD has to be able to sell the program. JH may turn out to be dynamite, but that doesn't change that DW had at least two other guys turn him down before settling on JH. Now we're seeing a repeat searching for a DC. Yes, a huge part of that is the current state of our program. Not denying that in the least. But some keep making excuses for DW like he hasn't failed to secure his first choices. He has. That's fact.
If you weren’t a tannessee fan..... would this school be your choice if you had options?

Like I have said-- more than once-- I do not care who they hire, what they look like or where they are from, as long as they are the right fit for this staff.

Simple sentence, completely monosyllabic. Impossible to misinterpret, yet you'll continue to spin doctor it to fit your agenda.

I'm not spinning anything. My question is: If you don't care about the race of a coach, why would you call that coach a diversity hire? It's common at this point for black football coaches to be hired, so it seems as if you made that statement to make a point.

Did you mean that UT is paying him so much more than he is currently making, and in order to justify that amount, part of the rationale is that he fills a need for diversity?

I like you as a poster. I just want to understand where you're coming from. Why ever call him a diversity hire in the first place? It's demeaning.

This is going beyond ridiculous for a defensive coordinator. Just take the L and move on with some dignity to the next candidate, or just give the job to Steele. Stupid Danny White AD era can't end soon enough imo.
That is an embarrassing post. Displaying the emotional state of a 13 year old girl is never a good look.

He failed to secure his first choices because he is swinging big. If he aimed low to start and didn’t get rejected, I don’t see that as better....actually that is much worse

If Washington, a position coach, is turning/has turned us down for a well paying DC job, we have officially reached bottom meet barrel.
dude, rest assured losing a guy at a NC competing program who just got paid isnt bottom of the barrell. we hit that few weeks ago...

we've begun the long slog up side of Morgul Vale. Sauron, played here by Jim Haslam, and, Saruman, played by Plowman - sayin' bring it.

A brilliant master plan actually. Hire an Oklahoma prodigy. Steal Pruitt from Bama and marginalize. See to it that key coaches are overpaid at OSU and Clemson. Am anxious to see what the next move will be.

Basilio is saying candidate 8. That is so dumb. If he really believes that, he is not credible at all. Just think about it, what other names have we heard with this DC hire? We have seen nothing like this with Washington? Now, is it possible that they sent a lot feelers out and had several guys say they aren't interested, that's possible. But they haven't targeted 7 guys like they have Washington and tried to hire them. That's ridiculous. We would've heard that.

This. Feels like this got too far down the road to let it turn around. Go to whatever price you need to.

Actually, I look at it like this. We paid 2.7 million to OC/DC last year. That is generally going to go up slightly with a new staff. We're going to save on OC since Heupel calls his own play. Give Washington 2 million and Golesh 900K or even 1 million and lets roll.

I don't know how that would work without creating animosity within the staff. I don't know how you can pay a first time DC $2M without the rest of the staff resenting his salary. That might work for someone who has already paid his dues as a proven DC. We just fired the most dysfunctional staff in the country.

It's not okay for an AD to keep whiffing on his hires, never getting one of his top choices. No matter what condition we're in, that's not called success. DW is getting paid a lot of money to hire his third, fourth, or fifth choices. The whole point of bringing him in, in paying him more than most other ADs, was his supposed ability to "get his guy". That's not to say things won't still work out. But he hasn't landed "his guy" on multiple tries.

Can’t blame the guy for taking an offer given to him.

"DW is a failure because he's not getting his first choice" ? I sincerely hope some of you people are as perfect in your chosen profession as you expect anyone associated with athletics to be. I would be disappointed in Coach Washington if he were NOT having a difficult time leaving his players. If you have ever coached or taught you understand how difficult that is. He also is trying to justify moving away from his parents and extended family. If he stays, he stays. It happens all the time in this business. Get over it and move on.

Haven't you heard, every name that's been reported has turned us down

Well I’m proud to say if we get turned down it’s not for the lack of trying, finally. At least we can see we are trying.

Refreshing. Clear logic. So we can only do what we can do. But at least what we are doing is finally serious. But but but.....we got turned down.

We are the ugly dude, that is short and overweight and has zits. Before we made no effort to fix ourselves up and just settled for asking out the girl that we knew we had a chance at. Now we are putting on nice clothes, washing our face, brushing our teeth, and approaching the best looking girls at the school to ask them out. We still can't force them to say yes. But I much prefer the second scenario to the first one.
