I am liking what I am seeing of Heupel as a person. He seems like a decent guy, even if he is a bit awkward and doesn't project that "Leader of Men" quality that some coaches have. If he can just establish trust and credibility with the players, that will go a long way.
He does seem genuinely likable. I wonder how these players felt about Pruitt at the end.

I find it hilarious that “Silent Bob” believes he can control a starved fan base that is larger than the combination of his previous stops, and by a wide margin.

I don’t think he understands the behemoth he’s subtly mocking. We are rabid. We are starved to death. More than that, we are a loyal bunch that wants to see UT competing for championships. If he delivers on that through his hires, the need to implore fans to “behave” in a manner appeasing to his ego evaporates. His focus should be fundraising and instilling competence across all levels of the UTAD. If he cannot do that, no amount of positivity and Flex Seal™️ will deliver on our expectations, and he will be miming tears in the unemployment line.

How do we go from someone wanting to run a tight ship to the bolded words here?

I find him to be very likeable. I'm pulling for him

Yeah, I've certainly been fooled before, this was about the phase in the Pruitt tenure when he gave the "cornbread interview" and I thought he would really fit in well.

The pure arrogant entitled jackassishness (you are nothing like this) of a section of our fanbase blows my mind..

I have a pretty good ability to block out events that are emotionally and/or psychologically painful (ok...I actually just forget a sh!t-ton of stuff whether it was good or bad). On the Jancek 4th and 14 deal, was it a bad call or bad execution? I know he’s ultimately responsible for both, but if it was a decent call I can cut him some slack.

Seems like there was some controversy over a linebacker spying, and I’m pretty sure at least one or two DBs took horrific angles.

I’d rather him not be the hire, but I was surprised when a few of you seemed OK with it.

He played a spy on Will Grier on 4th and 14. Grier isn’t picking that up by running, and if he does, well congratulate him on a good play. The mind boggling thing is that they called it again in the last play of the UGA game that year where UGA needed to score a TD from 30+ yards. That one just worked out because the safety made a play.

I thought he was a solid DC, but these two play calls do stick out in my head.

For sure. All coaches come off as likable once they are hired.

But to your point about it going "a long way" with the current team, I think that is correct. And especially so if some (or most) of them didn't like Pruitt at the end.

Who was it in the media that put it out there a couple days ago that a lot of NFL guys expressed interest in the DC job? What happened with that? How do we go from that to Jancek?

Every place Pruitt has been, he supposedly has great relationships with the players.

Pruitt's problem is that everywhere he has been except Alabama, he has problems with authority. The only reason he didn't clash with Saban is because his authority is unquestionable. Richt didn't have a strong enough personality to control him, and at Tennessee there was just poor leadership/a revolving door in most of the top positions. Supposedly many people in the AD hated Pruitt.
