Recruiting Forum Football Talk III

I think it's funny he takes so much pride in never having leaks. He was at Buffalo (no one cared) and UCF (very few cared until Frost and still it's nothing like what the fanbase at Tennessee is). Being at a place like Tennessee is much different than what he is use to.
Bc there is absolutely no benefit to it being leaked but there are potential for negative things such as the brohm hire...... even my work is big on not allowing leaks to get out to the employees...it’s just good common sense.

This years class is done---maybe 2 spots from the portal left. JH and the staff that hasn't been "officially" named yet are out recruiting for 2022
I'm referring to the 22 class. They are already competing with coaches, some who have years of relationships invested in these recruits. Every single day matters greatly.

But yet everyone gets upset that we look like clowns when the national media is leaking things about our coaching search's, etc. Can't have it both ways. At the end of the day we as fans frankly have no right to that info, it's more of a need to know as far as I'm concerned (and I love hearing behind the scenes talk).

As mentioned before, DW explained his position on 104.5 last week, and it was very professional IMO. What he said was that coaches knowingly move a lot, but discretion helps in these cases to not upset current employers and players unnecessarily. He said that showing that level of respect to someone in those circumstances will be looked upon favorably in the future by prospects because they know you will do all you can to not make them look unfavorable to others.

Anyone running anything knows that you keep in house stuff in house.

Even hires.

Especially hires.

I didn’t even tell my elected officials when I made three key moves in my department this past year. Not even the ones I trusted. It’s not their job to meddle in my business. I have everyone’s best interest at heart, and I don’t need their outside influence on who I need to hire. It can only make it worse.

If DW wants that leak plugged, then that leak damn well better be plugged. It’s more professional that way.

CJH said they hoped to be close to having most of the staff positions filled by Monday and he would leave it up to DW to make announcements sometime next week. They aren't putting a ticking clock on it.
But this program will IMPLODE if they don't announce it the second ink is dry!!! /sarcasm

I guess my question would be: what are we not hearing?

You all assume we don't know who the DC is because there are no leaks. I would argue we don't know who the DC is because one hasn't been hired yet.
We will know when we know. Everyone is entitled to think what they will. I think it is funny that some people think it is their God-given right to know as soon as it happens.

Add 10 more to it and I can see the full roller coaster that is Vol football. Tales from my dad's time right before I was born of Gen. Neyland's dominance on through today.

The mid-later part of the 80's are where we are right now. Johnny had come home and we had endured nearly a decade of mediocrity as he built the program. Even then, there were games we won that on paper we should not have. We all knew what did it, the Volunteer spirit. Tennessee teams never let up even if outmanned. Have not seen that recently since Josh Dobbs and Derek Barnett were here, and then not so much as a team, more as individuals. The 90's were great knowing that we would always been in every game with a chance to win. We glorified the wins during the period, but in actuality we probably underachieved with the talent advantage we had. That advantage was a credit to CPF and staff. During that period into the early 2000's, we were out-coached more times that we want to admit. The talent would pull out the W to overcome it some of the time. We've never had a HC like Saban or Meyer since Gen. Neyland.

I back DW all the way with his changing of the culture. Whine away about the lack of leaks and desire for positivity. He owes us nothing other than to provide a good program that most Vol fans enjoy and support. To do that takes a 180 degree reversal in the culture. It is past time to regain the Volunteer fighting spirit.

So let's all head down to the Waffle House and get after it.
This is so correct except I think we are closer to the late 70’s when CJM coined the LoM phrase. Grew up on the Vols in mid-60’s (first game I saw in person was UT vs andy in Nashville). Saw Battle destroy what Dickey built (UT student in the early 70’s) and watched CJM roller coaster of results in 80’s. Fulmer built on Majors success but didn’t change with the times. Think this is the first time since the 90’s that we may actually have alignment between administration, AD, and boosters. Fans need to give it a chance rather than ordering a moving van like they did for Battle (IMO).

I think it's funny people think it's funny that he is trying to control how significant staffing changes are introduced.

They're not really hiding much-- they're just not formally announcing. The new staff has been calling recruits and coaches, talking to players and dropping by workouts. UT is sensitive about publicity and when things don't go according to plan, they don't want it out there. So they're controlling what they can control.

Not sure why it's such a big deal that some of us would like to know who our coaches are? Also don't understand the benefit of waiting to announce the staff all at once? Clearly, some of his former UCF staff have followed CJH. I have zero problem with that. Why don't we just announce who they are? I agree there are certain things that should be kept secret. I'm not sure I understand the need to keep everything secret. But hey, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Personally, I just find some of this hush-hush, it's a secret a little over-the-top and a bit alienating. I'm not sure how keeping your staff secret actually builds culture.

Does the team know who the DC is?

I was spoiled. I started watching as a kid when Andy Kelly was qb, and got to watch the rise to the top as a teenager.
The "rise to the top" started with the early eighties teams. The eighties were a decade long period of "two steps forward, one step back"...but that was when the solid foundation was laid.

This hire is gonna be a little risky if it's not Artis. The dude has definitely been puttin' in the work and it appears the players really like him.
I hate coaching changes for things like this..these good guys that just get caught up in the gears of change.

Anyone summarize his reasons?

I posted this above:

Maybe its a "they're a team" type thing
